Okay, I want to start off by saying that i'm not quite sure if this is the correct area to be posting this, but it pertains to texture packs, so yeah. Anyways, I've been working on my texture pack for quite some time now and I've been using this as a guide : http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/File:TerrainGuide.png
Here, it tells me some of the terrain blocks are not used, Such as "FIRE NOT USED", though, in some peoples textures packs, when they show their terrain.png on the forums, some keep that there and some don't. Same with the new chests, some edit the chests in the terrain.png and others change it in a separate file. So I'm confused one what these texture are in the terrain
"PORTAL NOT USED"
"FIRE NOT USED"
"GRASS ?"
Additionally, I can't seem to find the leaves, both fast and fancy GFX, for birch trees...Only regular leaves and pine leaves.
I'm also having trouble on how and where to create my own custom lava/water both still and flowing.
Same goes for the "Portal" too. I want to create my own custom Portal texture but have no idea how to make one if it is saying "NOT USED".
CREATING A SIGNATURE :
I want to put a signature into the unused terrain.png blocks, are there certain ones that will affect minecraft? I can I just go ahead and just place my logo/sig. on it?

How do i create a Zip for others to download?
LICENSING AND COPYRIGHT STUFF FOR MY PACK :
Where do you obtain official copyright stuff for a pack?
