In the days of yore (1980-1986 or so) game graphics were made using a 16 color palette. Spawning a new genre of art called pixel art along with one of the best era's of gaming. In honor of this I have created Remnant.
If you have ever felt nostalgic for the "good ole days" or wanted to experience what your forefathers experienced in gaming than this pack is for you. Remnant is inspired by games like: Kings Quest, Ultima, and the AD&D gold box series and was made with a 32 color palette.
Enjoy!
This pack was created for Steelfeathers' Pixel Art Challenge. The requirements of which were to create terrain blocks with a specified palette and only use 5 colors per block (with a few exceptions).

This is very nice...
I was going to start a strictly-paletted pack to be like such times, but I suppose now I'm too late.
Oh well, best of luck with this!
I'm certainly not going to dig out some old games now, and try to make a better pack... not at all... Because I can't. Sadface.

That's exactly how I feel about this pack. I should hate it, it really is a bit of an eyesore at times; and yet it's my favorite packs now. Going back to Impressions makes the game seem dull by comparison.
I remember the 80's very fondly...and the construction of the first home computers (ZX81's, ZX Spectrums, Commodore computers and Amiga's...more a UK thing!). Colours as used in your pack are incredibly evocative of that time.
Aah! such youthful times. So as already echoed in the comments above, there's something about this pack that's so right when it should be so wrong. :biggrin.gif:
Just an excellent idea...full stop.

I think you really hit the concept. I usually play with highres texture packs, but the palette coloring really triggers nostalgia much more than resolution does.

Thanks. The thing about resolution is that most games actually very widely in the resolutions they use. Even back in the 80's. I don't know how many people ever played the Gold Box edition AD&D games but their resolutions would range from a character being made up of about 30 pixels (on the battle field) to pieces of art that were probably a few hundred thousand pixels. (for their story telling scenes)

This pack makes me feel like I'm six again, watching my brothers playing through their hour long turns, waiting for the glorious five minutes I'd get to play during my turn before I would die! (sigh) memories.
I'm really digging the armor, and I can't wait to see the rest.

Your story makes me think of my trips to my cousins house, he was the only one lucky enough to have an NES but he would rarely let us use it. :smile.gif:

nice very well done for being limited to only 5 colors per block. unfortunately it hurts my eyes to much to use it. not your fault it was a pill i took, it damaged my eyes a bit bright colors are hard to look at anymore.
but i at least have to say you did an awesome job in this, i wish i could use it.
Thanks for the kind words. Sorry about your eyes. I may either rework this pack or do another pack based on EGA (64 colors instead) graphics that would be less harsh on the eyes. Think early SNES. or games from the late 80's

I rather enjoy this pack, in fact it has taken the place of my other pack, impressions, as my "default"

Totally understand. This pack is definitely not everyone's cup o' tea.
