You could add an electricity sort of thing in the middle of the beacon block.
That would kill the rustic feeling of this texture pack.
And it's not exactly a beacon, that's the lighting effect to tell you it's operational. The mechanic of the block actually allows you to create an AoE buff effect when you offer certain items.

I felt there needed to be emerald somewhere on this block as it is only useful atop emerald blocks.

The thing about your design is that the block isn't just for emeralds.
We need to find something that fits Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Emerald. Lmao.
Boat load of pictures incoming. After toying around with this, It turns out you can make more than just a 1x1 beam.

Well, if you combine all the colours from default you get a funky pale tealish...not sure that helps much though. >>
Maybe something in gold with iron borders, with diamonds and emeralds (and maybe lapis?) embedded into the sides...just an idea. :3
Also...AWESOME. you can make something look like it's exploded into light....oh wow...dude... I have to say this *giggles*... BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY!

Considering it's just a basic outline right now? It's possible. Even for a default block it's kind of..boring. Not that boring default is going to affect our packs. x3

Absolutely. I'm excited to see what else Jeb is going to throw out in the next couple of weeks.
Taking a look at the beacon in default really does give me the impression that's it's half complete.
We'll just have to wait and see what the block is actually going to be used for.

It's a buff/regen block. Dinnerbone has tweeted picks of its radius power. Once activated standing in the radius will forever keep that power. Though time goes down it renews as long as your in the radius. The radius also gets bigger as the pyramid grows(9x9 being the largest I have tested atm). So in essence you could really put the huge pyramid underground with a little hole showing light (or a big one) and have the buff/regen powers while you run around your base. It does make a great window as you don't need torches or glowstone because it omits light within itself.
Also tweeted it is 100% a placeholder texture "15 second job".
On Topic: I have a few other textures but will wait to see what the real texture will look like.
