Hey guys,
Today, I start the first Minecraft CommunityPack (I intend to do more of these in the future.) Us, all the people of the Minecraft Forums, texture artist or not, can come together to make a work of art. Here's how it works:
When you post, find a tile (block) to do that hasn't already been chosen. Make it in a simple editor like Paint.Net, GIMP, or even Paint, and post it here. If you want to make more, go ahead. A chosen team of Texture Artists, like myself, will decide which ones will make it to the final product. Do not fear, everyone will get a chance. Now, your challenge, make something that's creative, special, and fits the theme of the current CommunityPack. Another note, one of the main points of this pack is getting non-artists to contribute to a texture pack. So please don't enter just because you think you suck. Even if it's one tile, it counts. Now let's make some art.

MINECRAFT COMMUNITYPACK #1 THEME
Our theme is Medieval, so castles, knights, anything of that sort. Let's do this!

HOW TO POST
Simply say what tile(s) you are going to try to work on, and we'll add you to the list.
Simple as that. Later, when you're done with that texture, we'll review it, and hopefully, it'll be chosen. With over 100 blocks to make, have no fear you won't get a place. This is simply to protect from trolls, spammers, and other annoying folks.

TILE TEMPLATE

Download this (click on it), it is a 16x16 square you can submit with a texture. This is the real size of a block. For special templates, as shown in the Block list, PM me for those. Important! Before you submit a texture, make sure it has reasonable tiling, or how it blends into other blocks of the same type (think of a wall). It's really a shame to have to redo textures just for tiling issues. Check before-hand on all sides how it looks.

Perhaps a theme that will actually last may be more appropriate.

Nice concept though. Community packs are always very interesting.

OK, OP updated, added steelfeathers as a judge for incoming textures. I also put up a tile template, so you can start making your textures.

That's actually pretty nice! One thing though. You need to check for tiling by putting this next to other squares of the same image to see if they fit together. For your first texture, that's a great start.

Nice! And it tiles too!
Sure, make the iron door. But remember. Medieval. Medieval. Medieval. The iron door is one of the defining things of the style, so make it good.

Jorge, it's nice, but I don't know if it really fits with the Medieval theme. Look at some jail cell doors from the time period maybe. The bars are nice, just tweak the door a little.
Also, cell phone? Ha, get it? Um...nvm
Anyway, we need more textures people! However good or bad you think they are, it's worth trying.

Doesn't really fit with the "medieval" theme. Something a little more rustic.

Hey, I'm in the process of making a very narcissisticly titled pack(maxrimcraft), and I got an inspiration for a wooden door texture while I was on this thread, so I figure I owe it to the thread to post it. This texture will be in the next release of Maxrimcraft, though.


maybe the iron door could be this with iron re-bars or something...

I'm not a Picasso at texturing and I can't download GIMP or Paint.net so I just threw this together as a cobble texture maybe? Or bedrock. I really don't know but hope it gets chosen as something!

Hmm...one problem: Not enough color. I saw 3 colors, not really that interesting. Try adding a bit more color, and looking at some pictures of cobblestone in Medieval times. Also, I think the stuff in between the stone bits is darker, not lighter. Please, don't let this discourage you, just try again.

Bleh I just decided to turn it into a coal texture
