So recently I bought a minecraft after years of playing off of my friends' accounts. My laptop, a Vostro 3500 windows 7 home premium, will not support transparency. I didn't mess with anything with paint or anything, and even when I turn Aero on it won't work. So I tried to use an image editing software that supported transparency and edited terrain.png to make stuff transparent, but that didn't fix it either. My glass is black except in the parts with the blue on it, and my swords and everything are outlined in black and made square. I already looked at a hundred different posts about this, and none of the solutions worked. So if it's one of those things like, oh delete your .minecraft and reinstall, then don't bother posting.

Welcome to the forums! Have you updated to the latest graphics drivers?
oh WHOOPS! In that case...
the problem is not your computer but with ur image editing software. Your background cannot be black or else that is what is going to appear. In "Gimp", you will get the checkered backgroud which indicates transperency. THAT is your problem, nothing to do with your computer.
