Listen, if someone can't make an okay pack, they shouldn't be making a pack! Unless, they have another reason to do so, such as practice for graphic design.
The worst thing to do with a pack is to simplify the default pack, because if you don't like the default, why would you want to download a simpler version of it? Put some damn effort into a proper pack, fully detailed and original.

Download the texture and add the zip file into the texture packs file in .minecraft. You can find it by typing %appdata% to search in windows.
For mac users: Get the zip from the bin and go to your library/applicationsupport/minecraft/texturepack file and drop it in it.
