Are you someone that is a fan of the vanilla textures Minecraft, but still think it could do with a little bit of change? If you, like me feel things like, the grass and mycelium, the dirt, the glass, the cobble, the sandstone, the iron bars and even sometimes the workbench could do with some work, hopefully, you'll like this.
This is only a terrain.png replacer for those who want a generally vanilla feel to the game, but with a few textures redone/replaced.
This is my first real attempt at making a custom texture or general appearance change for the game. I've done texture pack mix ups before, but not proper editing. Any suggestions or requests will be taken into account (including more block re-skins) and if enough requests are made I will make both complete Minecraft texture overhauls and Complete Minecraft texture packs.
This .png removes the lines from glass (a popular favourite on the forums), makes cobble less ugly, adds new tool to the workbench and one or two other tweaks, lengthens grass on the side of blocks (of all biomes, no colour mess ups, I learnt from that mistake before) and darkens the dirt on all blocks that use it, with very faint patches of almost moss growth on the side(for better blend of dirt to any biome grass. It also re-textures the iron bars, making them look stronger and less like sugar cane, makes snow covered blocks, actually look snow covered and also, makes the sandstone look less brick like and more normal looking.

Pictures coming later sorry. Currently busy.

The suggested method of instillation is:
.Open WinRAR or a similar archiver program.
.Click download link and wait for download to finish, shouldn't take long.
.Find your download and make a folder that's easy to find for it.
.Access your minecraft.jar in WinRAR. (I tend to just locate it in AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/bin and drag and drop)
.Find the terrain.png for your standard Minecraft and make a copy and put it in the same folder you moved your download to.
.Delete the terrain.png in your minecraft.jar.
.Move the download to the minecraft.jar (Should be all ready open in WinRAR)
.Re-name the file from: terrain (2) (insert long name with version numbers plus the word edit here).png to just: terrain.png
.Play Minecraft.

Version 3 (includes pumpkin without carved face grown naturally, better face on jack 'o' lantern, better obsidian, better lapis block, more realistic tnt (made from sand and gunpowder it wouldn't have read tubes), changed my existing sandstone texture, better brick texture, better end stone, rounded rings in tree blocks more and better gravel) terrain.png
To remove, simply delete the new terrain.png and either locate the copy of original in the folder you previously created for it and the download, or force update your Minecraft (If you do this with mods on your Minecraft, you will be pretty annoyed)
This is a file replacer, not a texture pack. It merely replaces the terrain.png, for an improved vanilla look, at least I hope you'll agree
THANK GOD! i have been looking forever for a texture pack like this after crashing minecraft countless times from trying the faithful pack.
finally a texture pack that doesn't ruin minecraft.
keep up the good work!
edit: i have a few ideas about some textures you didn't edit, do you mind if i use your texture pack as a bases for my own?
I did say, it is not a texture pack, it is a terrain.png replacer, please read carefully, all it changes is the terrain.png.
Umm, I wouldn't mind collaborating work, but really, I don't want someone stealing my 'thunder' (I'll use that loosely) after hours of work setting everything up. I'm not just on about the .png
Sorry, but slight changes to the default texture pack aren't really that great nor useful =(
People get texture packs so they have a new experience in Minecraft, not just a few slightly modified textures =)
I at first also used texture packs just for this purpose. For a new feel, so I do know what you mean, however, I'm quite a big fan of most of the vanilla textures, just not entirely, so I sorted it.
Oh, okay, what would you suggest I do to the dirt?
I'd get round to it soon, maybe even tonight.
Thanks it's nice to see praise for something I put a few hours into.
Hm... not so sure about how to fix the dirt, since dirt is probably the most difficult thing to texture well (along with gravel). I dont have any ideas right now, but you can look around at other texture packs for some inspiration.

Okay, haha, yay.
How about, what's the reason you dislike it?
Then I can work from there.
Right, there's about 3672893 other packs that have 'fixed' the same textures that you have, and slightly better too.
At the moment, it looks like you put some dark and light colours in a square and used a blur tool to drag out random shapes. The tiling is quite off most of the time.
In general this seems kind of lazy and unnecessary. Sorry if I sound a bit mean, but this really isn't very impressive.
But keep up making textures, with practice comes great art!

Okay, just felt like doing it myself and sharing, that's all. Okay, but I did say this was my first try, besides, I'm just about to release an update after replying to these comments, however, I did not use the blur tool :smile.gif: coincidently though I did use the burn tool. I have improved my textures since the first release, any more constructive forms of criticism would be helpful, cause this is not all that constructive. Besides, this wasn't meant to be impressive, just simply something to make the vanilla Minecraft a little bit nicer.
People may have noticed a complete lack of updates, sorry about that. I've been very busy. I've made changes, quite a few, but I'm wondering whether or not to make a full replacer and texture pack, or to just keep updating this for a while, if you care and are watching this let me know asap and I'll put a link to the updated version.
Very nice, but can you make a texture for the ice? I hate the deafult ice:-)
Yes, I've already done one, but as previously mentioned, I'm waiting to release an update on a new thread, as I believe really this one isn't good enough to be online. I'll post a link to my new thread when I deem my work worthy of release, which could be soon.
