After seeing screenshots of (very) visually pleasing textures, I feel inspired to make my own, though not for this, since I like texture packs to stay for a long, long time.
Contest packs may look nice, but don't have much time to work on them and tend to be there only for teh contest, leaving nothing to download that won't be outdated soon.
Here's my best try at a 16x dirt, although I can still spot a lot of issues.
Theeeere we go. That looks great. I can't remember where I learned this (possibly steelfeathers?), but if you arrange the tiles in a cross like so:
You can edit the texture in the center to make sure it tiles well on every side, and then you keep replacing the outer textures with the edited one until you're satisfied with its tiling. Did that make any sense..?
I know, I mean like, how can you make textures that does not have a visible pattern easily with only 5 colors (the more colors, the easier it is to fix). Every time I "fix" a tiling problem I get one or two new ones. :/
With a lot x9473847104729742109741 of work... Unfortunately 99% of textures are going to have at least one tiling issue, we just need to minimize them as much as we can while still keeping the single texture detailed and interesting. :3
My textures have a few obvious tiling issues but I just leave them as they keep detail and I guess your eyes get drawn to other points on the texture so you don't notice them as much in motion.
Holy hell! This will be my default pack if you continue it! It's looking awesome!
I'm still having major problems with the grass on my pack, I may actually give up on it. :sad.gif:
EDIT: I was just thinking, this should be a monthly thing, but a different challenge each time.
Kind of like what they are doing on front page, but better because its ran by the texturing community
Don't know about a monthly thing. But that was one of the things that spawned this challenge. Leo, Steel and I were thinking that it had been a while since the last challenge.

Well I'd at least like to see this happen again, just watching people make the best of what they have (5 colors in this case) and make awesome stuff is... well, awesome.
I agree. It is fun. :smile.gif: Speaking of which, here are some update screenshots.
Is it considered agains the rules that my side-snow texture has 4 colors for the snow part and 2 colors for the small grass parts? Or are they considered separate elements? If they are not, then I can just remove one of the colors in the grass.

This is looking pretty sweet. I like that green that you're using.
The war we fight, is the fight of peace. For all of our soldiers and fellow others who died, to save our country, I thank them for what they did so more could live. Take the number of people who are living and make it a pie. for all that we let die, when we could help them, we loose some of the pie. So every death that couldn't have happened, that did, effects everybody who wants the pie full. One day, the pie will be only a crumb, and we will curse the wars, all of them. But we will worship them also. Once the pie is gone, It won't come back, so we need to bake another one. - Dishelpful.
EDIT: Nevermind, lilyo already beat whatever I had in mind

There's yet more to come!

Very nice. after seeing those textures being created, it's cool to see them in action.

Okay I'm probably not going to do this. But good idea anyway. Can you do packs below 16x or is that cheating?
Net_Bastard's Epic Low-res! As much awesomeness that you can cram into a 5x5 texture pack, and then some!
I like my, "Unique" textures.
First is wood door, second is gravel.
EDIT: Next time, ill make smaller pics XD.

Retired StaffI'm not much of a pixel artist, but it's always fun to try new things.
