Dear Mods: This thread will soon be full of WIP texture packs with download links. This is not a discussion thread! We are producing packs, not asking questions or discussing issues. So please do not move it to the discussion section. Thank you.
Welcome to.... The Pixel Art Challenge
Make a texture pack with only 5 colors per block!
Winner!
Congratulations to Eric, who created the Flantasy pack!
I guess I'll have to keep messing around with the biome stuff.
Ores. For some reason, the always dirt looks too dark.

The Challenge:
It's time to flex your artistic muscles and show the world what you can do with pixels! You are hereby challenged to create a texture pack using a set color palette of only 5 colors per block! Break out those pencil tools, ladies and gentlemen, and let's get to work.
The Time Limit:
The contest is now closed. Please vote for your favorite using the poll above.
The contest will close at 12am EST on Sunday, December 18.
The Rules:
Your entry must be either 16x or 32x. No HD packs allowed!
Only use five colors per block. See below for the exceptions to this rule (mossy cobble, etc).
All blocks except for sponge, pre-1.8 chests, breaking animation, and the unused icons must be completed. Lava and water are optional.
No trying to cheat with transparencies, etc. If you're making cobblestone and you want to create shadows, chose a darker color for one of your five colors.
Exceptions to the 'Five Color' rule
The following blocks are combination blocks, and therefore each distinct element (such as the cobblestone and moss for mossy cobble) can have its own five-color palette:
Mossy cobble
Side grass/Side snow/side mushroom grass
Bookshelf
Coal/iron/gold/redstone/diamond/lapiz ore
Rails (all types)
Pistons
Bed
Enchanting table
Brewing stand
Ender portal (side and top)
Cake
Redstone repeator
Chest
Furnace
Crafting bench
Jack o Lantern

This is a very cool challenge, one that I would participate in if I had the patience or attention span to finish a whole terrain.png xD
I can't even finish one in a month, let alone 24 hours :tongue.gif:
I like making individual textures that don't necessarily fit together. But I might do a few like that and showcase them here, even though I won't do a whole terrain.

Aw...but at least we get to see some pretty textures. :smile.gif:
Can we use grayscale? Or does that count as multiple colors?
Not 5 literal colors as in red, blue, yellow, green, and then however many shades of those you want but 5 colors as in 5 different shades, doesnt matter what colors they are.
I'm looking forward to placing a close last. :smile.gif:
This will be a challenge for me and I hope it helps me develop my skills.
So we have a week to get the pack submitted. I am guessing that by this "All blocks except for sponge, pre-1.8 chests, breaking animation, and the unused icons must be completed. Lava and water are optional. " you mean an entire texture pack and not just the terrain.png?

A teaser:
I usually use somewhere around 30 or 40. Hard to tell because I use transparencies a lot.

Retired StaffSounds like a plan. :biggrin.gif:
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with-- you're really good at pixel art.

Idk if it's supposed to be stone or cobble, you decide :tongue.gif:
Also any constructive criticism is appreciated :smile.gif:

Mkay, that shouldn't be too bad. The challenge for me will be the limited color palette and the low res. Hmm. 16x or 32x.

Retired StaffSpent an hour on planks, dirt, and cobble. EPIC fail. (It's so much easier to make pixel art tools...)
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
