Here's a replacement moon phases texture based on a sequence of lunar eclipse images.
This kinda makes more sense than phases in Minecraft as the sun is always on the opposite of the planet.
Plus, I really like lunar eclipses.
To use it put the file in the terrain directory of either your minecraft.jar file or the terrain zip file you're using.
Make sure it's called moon_phases.png
I'm pretty sure it will work without any HD patching.
Cheers,
Bill
[edit] Oops! I forgot to mention that it's for Minecraft Beta 1.9 Pre-release 4 or later. I'm using it with RC2.
[edit] I made a zip file version which you can use with the default texture pack. Get it here.
Put it into your texturepacks folder.
Then go into Minecraft and select Lunar Eclipse.zip.
This post describes how to use it with other texture packs.
Well, I tried to (down)load it a few different ways, and I only get the picture. Tried inserting that, but it didn't work.

Looks VERY nice! My only complaint is that I can't use the texture pack I normaly use (Misa's). It has however rekindled my city's desire to venture into space. We have sucessfully launched a pig! (Recovery was slightly less sucessful, but we all did eat well in the end.) Of all the languages I speak, code is not one of them. If there is a way to incorperate your eclipse mod with the texture pack I use, that would be fantastic. Thanks!

The following steps use 7-Zip but may work with other zip programs.
- make a backup of Misa'z zip file (so you can reverse the following changes if you want)
- close Minecraft
- open Lunar Eclipse.zip with 7-Zip
- open Misa's texture zip file with 7-Zip
- select the terrain directory in both zip files
- drag the 2 files from Lunar Eclipse.zip across to Misa's zip
- close both zip files
- start Minecraft with Misa's textures and it should work
It works! I thank you. My citizens thank you. The pigs....not so much!
I can see myself dying multiple times while watching the moon instead of the creepers.

That's great, panzerman. Glad it worked.
I've died a few times myself while moon gazing. That's the price we pay.
HOLY SON OF A GUN!
Do you mind if I use this?!!!!!!!!!!
I can give you 100% Creadit for doing it!
You (and anyone else) may use this in their pack if they credit me and send me a link to the pack.
I'll put the pack link in the first post.
Cheers,
Bill

You also seem to have forgot to mention a download link! Looks nice, I'd like to try it.
Thanks, panzerman121. I added a link to the post.
Your link just brings up the picture. Your teasing is only making me want this mod more!!
Sorry about that. You might need to right-click on the link and choose "save as".
