If it makes you feel better I don't assume gender. I normally Think of a person as a gender-less being until I see something that makes my mind up either way. Something like the pic of you in the medieval armor. Though I had decided before that. Not many males would name their profile after their dog. :smile.gif:
Not a bad way to do things. I typically guess on gender just by how people talk online. Sometimes you can tell. I have no idea how often I'm right though - if I need to know for certain, I check their profile.
I used to use the moniker "Kiddo" as it was an old, old one that I'd gotten used to. But on sites I don't think I'll be active on I register as Thistle now - and well, surprise, I turned out to be active on this one anyway. Anyhow, I gotta get going. There's a SCA meeting tonight and I might be teaching people to paint - I doubt it as no one announced it over the e-list, but I don't want to get caught unprepared anyway. Need to pack up the supplies and get going!

I find I operate the same way on the internet myself. I've picked up on the differences and find that you can typically be pretty right most of the times... though I avoid any gender-specific nouns until I've verified, heh.
So my teaching went fantastic. Got a couple people interested in painting and got a good start on my own next big project. Also worked up some banners tonight for the customizer... I got an e-mail that they're gonna feature it on their front page. I'm a bit astonished - I did not expect this pack to take off so quickly like this. I'm glad I got some fixes in yesterday!
Aha, Thistle. You've made a wonderful texture pack, I knew you could do it. It's very detailed and everything is just really, well, I don't know, but I guess I could say awesome.
That's because there are no girls on the internet and my boobs are merely the fiction of a FBI agent hiding behind this screenname. Or so I've heard.
But in all seriousness, I've gotten so used to this sort of mistake that it doesn't bother me and it's easier to just let it slide every now and then. My real name can be a girl or a guy name so I get this outside the internet too. Credit card offers are always addressed to Mr. Thistle and when I turned 18 I received a draft registration notice. Heck, just the other day I got a letter from a bank thinking I was my mother's husband (same last name) and offering me a better mortgage on my parent's paid-for house. It's not even a name that's commonly used for men - there's just ONE guy that's fairly well-known with it and the automatic assumption is I'm male, even though female usage of this name currently way outweighs the male use. Male is just the default assumption. Like I said, you get used to it.
Well, I'm usually not making a bit fuss around it either. It's just so obvious with you since you have a girl avatar and your profile says it too.
I also guess sometimes which gender people are but I'm often mistaken.
P.S.: That draft registration notice thing is really funny. Although you can be in the army as a woman too, of couse.

Meh, don't worry about being offtopic. There's only so many times you can say 'omg it's a texture pack!' I should tell you about the times I've gotten mistaken for a male... irl... face-to-face... it only happens when I'm wearing armor.

Incident #1: I had just started fighting and one of the guys - short with long hair - gave me his old gambeson. At this time, I also had long hair. We were at an event and I was standing there in my armor and his old gambeson. Some very large guy came up and grabbed me from behind in a bro-hug, exclaiming, "GOOD TO SEE YOU!!!" I have never met this man in my life. I let out a squeak, he lets go and backs up with a look of utter horror on his face. "Oh god," he utter, "You're. Not. Dan." No. No I'm not. But apparently from the rear in his old gambeson I look like him.
Incident #2: Well. That coif made me quite ambiguous. The makeup artist asked if the director wanted me as a girl or a guy and he had to think for a moment before he answered 'girl'. Even with the mascara and eyeliner people still had to ask.

I'll be at a SCA event all day tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to work on this more until Sunday or Monday. But this is what the GUI is going to look like.
And the main .zip download is updated! GUI is totally done, new painting options, etc. I'll have a gold version of the GUI up for download later tonight too in the customizer.
