Here is the thing with simple packs... Just as TheMirror said, there is so many of them! I can not express enough how hard it is to watch every other new texture pack to be this 'Simple' 'Clean' or 'Flat' nonsense. It is getting ridiculous, and quite frankly, we don't want them. I click on a thread, and I see a one-color green piece of grass, and a darker green outline. How much effort did you honestly put in to that pack?
What I mean about over saturation, is that, it adds so much water to the propel flavoring, that you can't taste the flavor anymore. All the good packs are watered down by lame simple packs. I can understand that it is your first pack, but I would not like my first public pack to look like sh*t, and everyone who puts effort in to their packs thinks likewise.
If you want to learn how to make decent textures, look at 42 and 19, TheMirror, and steelfeathers. They are the most prominent and active members in the texturing community, and guess what? They have crap-tons of tutorials!
Finally, I would like to appeal for a ban on simple-craft. The name has already been taken long ago, so therefor, they are breaking the rules anyway, and they serve no purpose but to irritate people who put effort in to their packs.
I should add, don't flame me, I am just interested in hearing your opinions.
Well, they ARE a start. Are you expecting beginners to have the detail you crave so much in texture packs? Maybe you should stop looking at these 'simple craft' packs and simply ignore them. Why not make your own texture pack? 'We don't want them?' Either be more specific about who is 'we' or just say 'you don't want them.'

Right here should be my signature, but the picture doesn't work.

So, If i'm reading this right, just because a simple pack is on the front page just like your pack might be, that means your pack looks like ****?
Yeah... I think they should be banned, they are way too easy to make and there are way to many of them. I think plain wool is okay though (sprite art). Also you still have the best gif on the entire internet, it's even better than this one.

I must disagree with you here. While I do agree that there has been a flood of packs that are intentionally effortless and frustrating to deal with, not everyone is a top grade artist. Some people are just plain noobs at art and want to learn and have fun. When I started Paragon Hjalte I didn't really know anything about pixel art or drawing techniques, I just know my way around GIMP well enough. But I grew and so did my following. Still minor, but acceptable.
If you are just talking about banning the name, I honestly think that such is an unnecessary and unwanted hamper on internet free speech. If one desires to use such a title, then so be it, he accepts the disapproval that comes along with it and becomes a pariah to the rest of the forum. I think the best solution would be the simplest one - to give these threads no attention at all. And while I agree that Steelfeathers, TheMirror, and 42and19 (and that one guy) are very talented artists, lets not forget that there are many other less well known authors that still produce quality textures, or at the very least, legitimate work, even if it doesn't appeal to everyone.
I agree that the most obvious troll packs should be immediately banned/locked, but many times you just have very new, green people who simply aren't familiar with all of the techniques or rules. They should still be able to post here as long as they follow the rules. The people who are interested can give praise and advice, and the people who lack it can allow it to fall to the wayside.
In other words, just turn the other cheek and see how quickly they fall to the bottom of the forum stack; noobs can still be helped/ seek help if they so desire.
Well, some children still play Mine-craft and IMO, their parents may want their game to 'look' for Safe
(i.e skeletons, creepers could have smiles).
What I mean is, Don't ban peoples' creations because there having fun creating Texture packs for friends, families, and their kids.
You gotta have some sympathy for the people around you.
I mean, I appreciate your response to the situation (If a situation at all..)
but I would atleast get a full consent of the community.
Also, this is my understanding on 'Simple' packs. >

Hmm, I very much like this. I was just expressing my feelings, however, and this does not directly represent myself as a person.

Your pack is simple...and I also have my own texture pack and its simple....
why do you wanna appeal a ban for those simple packs?
some other people like them and some like you....hating them
Also, It's just not morally acceptable to ban things based on their difficulty to create (textures or not). Just because something took less effort doesn't mean that it is of ill-intent, or that it is anathema.
1. Who are you to decide who should be banned? Why do we decide?
2. People have to start from somewhere
3. If you do not enjoy a certain texture pack, don't download it. simple.
4. Some people, like me, might enjoy simple packs.
So no, not really.
In fact, what "over saturation" are you talking about? I rarely see simple packs on the front page any more, or any where else really.
I am going to take the time to post for the entire T.A.U. (Texture Artists Union)
NO!
Emphatically and unarguably NO!
Yes, there are too many simple packs.
Yes, most of them are bucket fills that too no more than 5 mins.
However, it takes more skill to create a good looking simple pack than it does most other 16x packs. Doll House would be a fine example. Or puffy lines. It would be absolutly horrendous to ban these and, as an administrator of the T.A.U. it is my duty to stand up and protect the work of T.A.U. members. What you are suggesting goes directly against that.
Instead of banning simple packs I have a suggestion. DON'T COMMENT ON THE THREAD!
Really, it is as simple as that. If you don't like it don't comment and don't download. The thread will sink into anonymity.
As a side note, I am flattered to be placed in the same category with steelfeathers and TheMirror. I hope I did not come off to harsh. I am against the ban of anything really. I suppose the is the small smothered left wingest in me. :biggrin.gif:
This is not a forum to judge work post by the members here. No matter how much you may dislike what you see or how many of one type are posted. If you have something to report that may be against the rules, please do so. Otherwise, if you don't like a certain type of work being released, ignore it.
Having said that, I'm locking this thread. Serves no purpose to the forums.
