yeah, it might be annoying with 300 of those, but can't people make their texture pack as they want? to them it might seem like the simple texture pack they did, was different from the others, because they might have some thing that is completely different etc ,etc,...
most people who make these are probably new to minecraft, and might not be at the forum that much, and don't see that there are 299 texture packs looking the same way.
But mostly it is just someone who think simplecraft is a good name, so they use it. Everyone can't know there's 299 other with the same name, right?

People are entitled to their right to upload packs, of course.
There's a search bar for people to find other topics called "simplecraft", so they should use it (of course, they don't, because their thought processes commonly aren't so thorough.), but your point has been argued by feathers, and she pretty much nailed it. Thanks for contributing, though. :biggrin.gif:

I like this statement. I hear a lot of this nowadays. :biggrin.gif:
Mirror, thank you for not saying something like "these packs are horrible, stop making them" and offering advice to people. We could learn a lot from that.
It is indeed a tasty pack.
No problem! That's what we should be doing, rather than just flaming them.

Ah, Mirror. You again. Why are you always first when I think there's too many simple packs around. Looking at all the timestamps on your posts, I don't think you ever sleep. Literally. You probably just sit at your computer, posting and making textures :tongue.gif:
Anyways, There's nothing wrong with SimpleCraft (the actual original pack is actually pretty nice), but as to what's wrong with all the people posting even simpler (anything simpler than SimpleCraft is just pointless except to learn your way around the absolute basics of texturing programs)... they shouldn't post packs like that unless they have put some effort into them (which they obviously have not).
My thoughts are thus:
People posting such things shouldn't bother linking to a download unless people actually ask. Instead, such threads would be something along the lines of "Oh hey guys, I'm just beginning to learn texturing. Here's some screenshots of my first attempts in [This resolution], could you link me some tutorials?"
There's nothing wrong with something like that. There IS, however, many things wrong with posting it as if it's a complete texture pack... it is obviously not. In order for something to qualify as a texture pack, the textures must be close enough to defaults that users can actually work out what the textures are meant to be (i.e. things like leaves, logs, workbenches and everything else can still be identified without much of a hassle).
Also, as well as simple packs, I've noticed a slight increase in the frequency of people posting "packs" consisting of nothing more than the standard terrain.png, only inverted. It used to be about once a month. It's increased to about once every fortnight, from what I can see.
And instead of merely saying random stuff, I'm gonna pull together a few things and put up a WIP of my own texture pack. Trust me, I DID put effort into it :wink.gif:
It looks pretty good, actually, although I still need a lot of experimenting with ores, leaves and TNT (TNT never looks right, no matter what i do with it :sad.gif:).
Anyway, that aside, thankyou once again, Mirror... for doing your bit to stop the newbs from clogging our forums. What we need is a sticky thread with links to every decent tutorial thread related to texture packs. Mirror's ones about not making simple packs and such (I think you've posted like four by now xD) ought to be foremost on the list. Also, perhaps one should suggest to the admins about changing the forum layout. As it is, newbs completely ignore the separated bit up above normal threads where stickies reside. We should get them to make the stickies look more like regular posts -- that way, newbs will be fooled into actually looking at them, rather than ignoring their existence and not giving themselves the chance to read it.
Also, Mirror, next time, try to title your thread with some form of witty title designed to attract the people it targets. I'm sure you can come up with something (reflective or not :tongue.gif:).
It's not so much that the packs are simple. It's just that most simple packs tend to be of poor quality. Mine, for example, is very simple, but also good quality and unique. **shameless self-promotion**
yep, that's what i said, pretty much. Simple =/= simplistic. Simplistic packs (like yours) are nice, if you like smooth things like that. I happen to rpefer more realistic textures, without them ruining the Minecraft feel. Simple packs are ones that take no effort to make and involve basic filters being applied or just very basic recolouring with no thought put into them.
Seems our viewpoints are quite similar. :tongue.gif:
I can't wait to see your WIP work, hopefully you'll have it up by the time I'm home.
I do sleep...sometimes.. Sometimes I end up trying to go to bed, laying down for half and hour, checking the forums one last time and then going back to bed.

is my texture pack one of the simple ones you refer to.
Not really. Your pack is a "simplistic" pack, not a "simple" pack. Simple packs are just 1-2 color redos of the default textures. Your pack, on the other hand, is original textures with some nice coloring. It's a nice pack. c:

everytime i have seen you post you have either been shamelessly advertising your texture pack or looking down upon simple ones.
let people post what they want. you have no right to tell somebody that there texture pack isnt good or unique enough to be posted, and just becuase its simple doesnt mean it was effortless, some people lack artistic ability and that is the best they can do.
Yup. This topic doesn't get enough views. The admins should setup something where you can't post in the TP forum until you've spent ten minutes looking at the front page of this topic :tongue.gif:
I dislike seeing an unending flood of slightly recolored default packs myself, but there are several reason why we neither can or should stop them from appearing.
First, this forum is an open community-- there's no entrance exam to test how good of an artist you are and whether you should be allowed to post. Spring-boarding from that, art is very subjective, which means the pack that may seem simple, boring, rehashed, blase to us may well be someone's favorite pack. Should we attempt to deprive them of it? No.
Second, the truly bad simple packs are not a real threat to the overall quality of the art on this forum. Why? Because everyone knows they're crap, and after a day or so of bumps (and flaming from people telling the poster that it's crap-- you guys need to stop doing this by the way, it only keeps the bad packs on the first page) they will sink like stones and never be seen or heard from again. And as for people bumping their own packs: it's against the rules of the forum to do so, and mods can and will warn them for it.
Thirdly, threads like this-- while they may express the sentiments of a large part of the community-- only serve to alienate other parts of the community, dividing us against ourselves. Though there are many troll packs out there that were thrown together in five minutes, there are also dozens of first timers who have no idea how the forums work or that their 'simplified' pack has been done a million times before. They aren't stupid, they aren't trolls, they simply haven't been around the block as many times as we have, and immediately pouncing on them and declaring how worthless their pack is doesn't win us any brownie points.
You are all, of course, free to ignore me (and I know many of you will) but before this flares up into another firestorm I would advise you all to consider the points I listed above.
Just want to reiterate this point before another firestorm can start up.
