Changing the lighting

well I hate the new lighting looks like **** and I want to change it so I went and changed lighting_normal but that doesnt seem to change the torch light has anyone figured out how to do this???
Its probably a little early to ask this but oh well..

You can't. Not with a texture pack. Despite there being a png for it, it's actually more like Redstone, in that the colours are coded in.

Dangit the colors make my texture pack look weird, I was hoping to fix it...
