This is awesome. Only problem is, some textures seem so cartoonish compared to others. (ex: redstone dust and cobblestone)
That's because this was originally a realism x128 set, and then at some point I switched to vanilla 256x, some of the things are still leftover from then, and I haven't updated which is why with this version I'm updating the tools, and weapons and chests.
256x sets take a LOT of work, so since the set wasn't completed I was trying to not go back and change things that still worked. I was trying to push forward and finish, now that things aren't being updated so fast I'm going back and fixing the things that I don't like and that don't fit.
In the end alot of the realism parts of the set are going to change to a more cartoony feel which minecraft has. Like for instance the saddle plain sucks and was always just a crappy place holder that I just haven't gotten to.
The changelog is on the front page, there is a LOT of changes in this version, hopefully it's all ready for the new patch as long as they don't add too much more.
A ton of work went into this, please let me know if you have any problems with the new versions as a lot has changed. Make sure to use Latest MCpatcher, optifine seems to be rather buggy so if you have problems when using it please use MCpatcher instead before reporting bugs.
Aww man, I love this pack but, I really liked the old tools Do you think you could make an alternates file for tools and such? I really dislike these new ones compared to the old.
^^ and this is exactly why I am scared to change ANYTHING! People complained about the old ones because they weren't like vanilla.... So I make them more like vanilla and this....
I say give them a chance they might grow on you, if not just use the older pack I'm sure there are links still up somewhere. I hope at least Some people like them....
Ah well it's not like anyones gonna be playing much minecraft in the next few days, as diablo 3 is out at midnight and I know my soul will be gone for at least a week or two.... WHOOOOO! Can't wait!

I'm a little worried about this update, anyone have screenshots?
Edit: Yikes, downloaded it and looked through the images... I think I'm sticking to an older version. I do still appreciate the hard work though cferrill1. However, I think this slightly "watered down" version, not sure how else to describe it, should be it's own pack perhaps.

I love how I change just the tools and weapons... that people have complained about for over a year, and now it's "watered down"..... when that is literally the only thing besides cobble that changed from the last version....
I have a nieghbor that is like that.... he's one of those guys that just doesn't like change, and chances are if you just give it a chance and especially if you compare it to vanilla it is MUCH more in line with how the vanilla weapons are. Minecraft is not meant to have realistic graphics it's meant to be silly and cartoony like Wow.... and if you want that kinda uber realism then I suggest you use LB photoset instead, or you could even drop the item.png from the old version in, and change the cobble back it's really not hard.
Honestly I wasn't a huge fan of changing the stuff.... but I realized that it was very off from vanilla when people complained so I changed them and the new stuff grew on me very very quickly.

I love the new tools. Don't pay attention to the criticism. I think you did a fantastic job on the update.
It's not necessarily that change is bad, it doesn't feel connected. The tools are fine, I like them better but the cobble is not working simply because it looks cartoon-ish, it does not fit with the real stone, people have a problem because every texture is realistic except for the cobble :/
Yes, its true Minecraft wasn't made for HD realism packs, but it only makes sense that if this pack is "realism" then its only fair that every texture is made realistic, the new cobble isn't.

I'm not hating, I'm just stating how it is.
Yeah I may adjust the cobble some more, the old cobble was just way way too realistic and too dark for the set, the new one might be a bit too cartoony, but I feel the new tools are a good representation of what they should be, fun and simple. And this pack isn't meant to be a realism pack... I've stated many times I'm moving away from that, this used to be a realism set then at one point over a year ago I switched it to a vanilla themed hd pack, some of the stuff is still left over from that. I've been slowly moving toward the new look, all the new stuff I have been doing that gets updated with the patches is in the new style. Like the new chests in no way would I say they are realistic, same with jungle leaves and vines. One of the first stones that was the new style was the sandstones. I'm trying to get that good balance with the new cobble but it just isn't quite there... and with diablo 3 coming out and me not playing minecraft much I was trying to sqeeeze in as many updates as possible before I go on a bit of a hiatus, I probably should have held off on putting it in until it was perfected.

Whoa, I didn't mean to offend you... In all honesty, probably my only gripe is the cobblestone. That is one of the reasons I picked this theme pack to begin with, I just loved the cobblestone. The new tools and whatever are fine, but I can't get over that cobblestone. I don't want an ultra realistic theme pack and I don't want a completely cartoony theme pack. This one seemed to be just in the middle and just perfect for my taste. And for the record, I didn't see very many people complaining about it being "too far off from vanilla." Either way, I'll say again, I still love this theme pack and will continue to use an older version for now.

No biggie, megaboys post cleared up more of what it is. I was tired from playing diablo 3 all night and was probably a bit oversensitive. As long as people can give specific reasons of what they don't like instead of saying the whole pack is "watered down".... that to me is like the equivilent of just saying "yup it all sucks" and not really giving constructive critisim.
I'll readjust the cobblestone soon, but I still don't think I'll be going back to the original for the reasons I have already stated it was a bit too realistic and too dark for the pack... I do need to find a happy medium though which I will, basically I should have probably just waited to perfect it before I put it in officially, normally that is what I do when I change something major I put it in play with it for a bit and see If I like it or hate it, the swords I really really like, the cobble I was kinda on the fence about.

Do you still have a copy of the old cobble/cobblestone stairs? I'm sorry but I just love the cobble. I really love the swords as well, especially the texture within the swords, very nice touch.

Would it be ok if I did sort of my own mish-mash of the two versions taking everything I like from each and putting them together for my own personal use? Basically I want to include the new tools.png but keep most of the old terrain.png with a few changes like the updated cocoa pods and melon vines. Again, this would only be for personal use and would never be distributed.

you need to either use OptiFine or the MCPatcher
