how do i change the color of redstone? i already know how to give it an overlay but i need to change the color to green so it can look like mako energy is flowing through them for my final fantasy 7 texture pack.

um why dont you just change the color in the texture pack
You can only give it an overlay in a solid colour. The colour of the wire is coded into the game, so you need to mod it to change it.
but ive seen people change the color of the redstone in their packs and not just have an overlay over it.( this is after the almighty notch chagned how redstone was shown and hard coded it in to the game, later i beleive he somewhat remedied that by adding in the overlays that allowed you to change the color with an overlay.)
You can't do it. You HAVE to mod it. Anywhere you've seen it done has used an overlay or a mod, OR they edited the colour of the standard wire, which will tint whatever colour you make it towards red when it's powered.

um why dont you just change the color in the texture pack
i tried that but whenever i activate the redstone it shows up red.

but if i use the overlay that i know of it will show up green all the time even if it's off and i only want it green when it's on.
