Originally created this thread for commentary on Stone Bricks, but feel free to discuss all new 1.8 textures, and not just with me. Below is the original post:
So...some people are already prepared for 1.8 (as far as textures go, that is).
One of the obstacles for my designs was creating a stone brick texture, that was distinct from stone, cobble and bricks already in existence. All of the [new] textures gave me a bit of a challenge, not knowing how they 'feel' ingame, but I decided to get to work and start with the bricks.
So this is my first prototype:
One of the things I'm concerned about is them being too ornamental - clearly, they are not "bricks" at all here, but rather highly ornamental stones. I don't know if that's the right direction to go, perhaps people want actual bricks, just looking for some commentary.
Also, if you are an artist and you want to share your prototypes / suggestions for new 1.8 textures, it is welcomed and much appreciated.
(Do I have to say this?...Obviously, you can't just go around using these as if they were your own. Just saying, so nobody has any questions.)
I like it. Like the person above me, I wouldn't use it for large structures, but it would be great for accents.
Thanks for the positive response, I guess I can see how this wouldn't work well with superstructures, but I may use it for something else if stone bricks don't go well. I have included it in the current ver. of my TP for now.
Also, very psyched to see how your 1.8 Enchanted will look, steelfeathers.

Eeep!
Now I really have to make sure you guys are impressed....
Just wanted to say that this isn't totally limited to Stone Bricks. You can talk about all new 1.8 textures here, It'd really help. Guess I should maybe change the OP to reflect that...
Very much liking this. I actually said "wow" out loud when I saw these. Nice job.
Wow, coming from you that means a lot! I'll definitely keep them in the TP, though still not sure if they should be bricks or not...I'll make a decision sometime, I suppose.

This makes me feel like my pack's bricks are no good. >:

I'll probably make a decorative alternative.
Hmm? I wasn't aware of the existence of stone bricks in your pack....I shall observe them, and give you my impressions, as you were kind enough to do for me.
I looked at the picture and instantly regretted saying that I was fine with 16x
I've never liked HD packs cause they usually have sharp black lines which bug me!
but your pack is great.
I'm currently working on a stone block texture for my pack.
(I just posted my pack like two hours ago on the forum so I don't know if that makes me an author or some such.)

Well I'm glad it's had such an impact on you! I'll check out your pack soon (and comment). Also, If you have a pack, regardless of how new it is, you are an author. So welcome to the fold.
