Hello! I'm not quite sure if this is normal, which is why I decided to make this topic. I have a i7 2600k clocked at 3.4hz and a gtx 560 ti in my pc, yet I still get bad performance in 256x and 512x texture packs. People with the same/similar specs and hardware of my pc are able to run high resolution texture packs just fine it seems, is something wrong with my computer? I also have 8 gigabytes of RAM.
If you have 8gb of ram and you're allocating 7 to minecraft, you're probably going to bog down. Just because you have 8gb, doesn't mean minecraft can efficiently use 7 of it. You might even be over allocating. Windows is going to eat a large chuck of that, along with java/svchost and whatever misc stuff is running passively. Personally I wouldn't force over 5/6gb. You have a great gpu/ core/ ram amount to "technically" run 256/ 512 textures, but you may want to look a little deeper than just those things, for example, what else is running? I would open up task manager and take a look at whats running in your background processes. Also, are you running java for 32 or 64 bit systems? By default java will install 32bit regardless of what your OS is running, mainly because most browsers run 32bit. I would install java for 64bit systems and from what I've read, you dont need to uninstall the 32bit version
I also have this problem. Allocating 12 GB of ram (from a total of 16), setting priority to High, overclocking the video card to 650Mhz (600Mhz by default) and using OptiFine doesn't make any difference. Seriously, I don't know wtf is going on. I can run 256X256 tex packs with 45-50 Fps, but 512X512, my minecraft just "run out of memory".
I guess it could be my shitty video card... ATI 4000/5000 Series, is what CPU-Z says. Pretty shitty. I'll see if buying a Geforce Gts250 512mb Ddr3 256bits will make any difference.

This is getting really frustrating, baaaaaaaah! I reinstalled Java 64 bit, set allocated memory to 4096, and even tried the Mcpatcher Heap Size modifier. Can someone please help me out here?
EDIT: Hey petur, can you list your minecraft settings, specs, and any mods you have on minecraft?
a click would be much appreciated :3(hopefully this one will live >:C)
If so, you may just need to allocate more memory to Java. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly how to do that.
Set priority? Isn't that it?
I'm making a texture pack: (16x) Silent Night
javaw -Xmx7096M -Xms3548M -jar C:\Users\(Insert username here)\Downloads\Minecraft
(I decided to use 7 gigs.)
cheers!
