According to the new rules, you'd need my permission to do that. If this goes through, you have my permission. :smile.gif:
Haha, I figured I would. Its not fair to artists to wall their work off just cuz its not done. It takes a LONG time to retexture EVERYTHING in game, building a fanbase while doing that is a fantastic thing to do. Cutting off potential fans is not the answer.
Another thing for me is WHY IS THERE A BUGS SECTION? If you mess up on a pixel, oh well, someone would tell you in the comments. NOT a big problem, nothing worthy of a whole damn section. Same with install.. I'm pretty sure 99% of TP's are installed the same way... and why can't comments be in about/download???... see... no need for all of those...
Nope, that won't help in itself, we need a complete counter-argument that both addresses the problems this update is trying to deal with and presents convincing evidence for the implementation of a different format in the organization of the content at hand. :wink.gif:
Guys and gals, lets win this. Almost all of the changes hinted on this announcement are actually counter-productive in solving the problems they try to adress. Content organization in thematic forum discussions should be helpful enough to further the discussion itself, and at the same time flexible enough to account for quantity or quality issues of added content with the minimal amount of needed moderation and/or secondary screening.
I began making a draft for a counterproposal that addresses all the issues in the announcement while at the same time offers a convincing argument against the current formatting hinted. I firmly believe we have an obligation as a community to safeguard its development and growth, not on arbitrary content corrosive terms but in real and liberating ones. We can work on a collective response to that announcement, and we can make it work, if we work together.
We're now being asked to subsection and categorize our posts in regards to what the comment is, i.e. a question, praise, problem, suggestion. That's all fine and good on paper, but the fact of the matter is, there are already so many rules and regulations that need to apply to posts now, that we're actually going to start turning people off from even posting in the first place. And then to enforce that is a whole other story. Posters are now going to be bouncing around between 3 different subsections just to say: "Hey, I love your pack, I find the wood too yellow and I have weird lines around my blocks."
The forums are now turning into an over regulated mess. Topic comments are now going to consist of "This is the wrong section for that comment, you need to go here..." Which is going to then turn into topic bumping for improper comments from newcomers. You never EVER fix a simple problem by applying more rules to it. The only viable solution I see is enforcing the initial rules in the first place. The legal copy we now need to add to our posts is understandable and let's face it, is a good thing in the end and is a passive rule, once it's done, it's done. However we are now going to expect new forum members who just wanted to write a nice comment and question to read 2 pages of rules and regulations? Only to post in the wrong section anyways.
For all the people who say: "Well, if you're too lazy to read the rules, then you shouldn't bother posting." And I do agree to that comment, however that is the thinking of the MINORITY. Majority of people here are casual posters, looking to drop in every once and awhile to say "hi and thanks".
Unfortunately we are always looking for the quickest and fastest solution, however those solutions are often the most time consuming. Even if this is something that has been in the works for months, I still dont think the kinks are worked out.
1. This forum change happens.
2. All the people that like and use WIP packs such as mine go to the new Texture Packs section instead of the bunched-up-together WIP section. People can't find those packs.
3. Posting "my pack is over there!" in the new Texture Packs section is effectively spam. Thread deleted. My pack loses its relatively small fanbase. Puffy Lines ceases to exist to the rest of the forum.
That's not fair on me, now, it is?
EDIT: The bugs section, and all of the sections, are utter rubbish. People can do all of that in my one thread, rather than four or five.
Also, you have my backing on the draft, Dante. Good luck.
NUUUUU DDDD: Trust me. That wont happen. We will make sure that it wont.
We have heated debate over remix packs for months.
Most believe we need a subforum for remix packs.
Mods say they will think about it.
Suddenly, this... Which has NOTHING to do with remix packs OR anything relevant to our interest...
Wat.
^^ That's exactly my opinion.
I think I work in the same conspiracy department as EverCharmer. The recent changes seem to amount to nothing more than to make life more difficult for the honest, enthusiastic members on this forum. We might be annoying, we might be vocal, but we've given a damn large amount of our time to making the Minecraft Forums a fascinating place to be.
I'm very grateful for those who volunteer to act as admin personnel...it's not an enviable job, in my opinion...so I understand if these decisions are made on the basis of making things easier for them, but under no circumstances is this decision acceptable if it so adversly effects the desires of it's members or their ability to share 'their' much loved material freely for the good of all.
Of course I speak with the Texture Pack Section in mind.
I hate unnecessary red tape at the best of times and this decision/proposal has so much red tape in it you could stretch it from one side of a Minecraft world to the other! :blink.gif:

A separate section for Bugs/Help install/Comments/Suggestions ? I could see that being handy for insanely popular mods, but I think I'll stick with single threadedness for now, it's not that bad having to sift through a single thread, through mutliple forum sections to find if anything is related to my own stuff might be too much of a pain to bother.

Yeah... I've been coming here for a long long time now.. Most of my Minecraft life I have seen you guys on here... It's just part of that community I have grown to love... I really don't want to see it split.. I don't want to lose you guys. D:
I'm having a chat with mollstam about this crap. He said: "Well it's their decision, and I hope they listen to you the community regarding what's best"
But darnit, we're talking about Curse here, we're doomed damnit!

It wouldn't be so bad if we could just choose to have ONE thread for our pack instead of 3-4. If this does happen though, where would we go if we couldn't handle it here anymore? I would much rather have all the artists in one place (Like it is now) than spread between customizer, Planetminecraft and other sites.

yeah unfortunately mojang has nothing to do with curse. If this was run by mojang it would be flowers and rainbows. :smile.gif:
@glimmar - also good points, yet again... why is it so hard to be as diplomatic as you.

never knew the first one existed.... and planetminecraft is a) awful for getting feedback and :cool.gif: fullllll of thieves.
I have a good fan base here, a great amount of views and there is a huge user base to see it... nowhere else offers that consistently.
Well, the first website is small atm, but everything starts small. I keep recruiting people to the forum, since its such a nice place with a nice community. I really like the place.
That Cameron_D guy has a twitter account also with about 20k followers i think. Sadly, there is only about 1k registered users, the rest are guests. (Which is about 20-40k i belive)
Just oughta help it grow ^^

Curse Premiumhttp://mojangcommunity.net/ is a nice place. Nice admins and nice userbase. And http://www.planetminecraft.com/ is also cool, i'm kinda new there though.
But i agree, we sorta need a place for every texture packer.
Yeah, I'm on Planetminecraft. have been for quite a while. Its a nice place but the feedback isn't anywhere near as good as here.
Plus on PM its a lot harder to give updates to the users about what your doing next and such.

http://mojangcommunity.net/ Looks nice and all but I'm sure someone new to Minecraft would search Minecraft Forum before Mojang community any day...
