They would be referring to the speed of the server, not your laptop.
I would say that they, at the very least, need to make bugs and help install/use optional for texture packs. That's such a joke. We don't have bugs in the normal sense, and a single help/install/use topic would work for every pack in existence.
I still don't get why we have to be coupled with mods... they do completely different things.
I still don't get why we have to be coupled with mods... they do completely different things.
I don't see how it's any more coupled with mods than it is currently. The only thing that's annoying is that they're demanding the same forum structure as a mod, when we are more like skins. Only difference is skins don't really need feedback, so a single extra forum for comments and feedback is (somewhat) useful.
Something that wasn't really mentioned by steel: there is now a WIP forum that collects all types of content. Here's the problem though... what constitutes a work in progress? Every last texture textured? Just the terrain.png completed? What about those people who are completely, undeniably done, but still tinker with the pack, is that in progress?
Will idiots with 1 texture slightly modified still post in the completed forums?
Yes they will.
Edit:
Actually, I take back (part of) my previous post (scroll up two posts). The lack of need for bugs and help/install forums also completely removes the necessity for a comments/feedback thread. Because what's left? The about topic which is supposed to get no replies? Smash it together with the comments/feedback thread and we're right back where we started, golden.
In other words, the only significant server performance gain that will be seen by the changes as defined by bluesteel will be from separating topics by MC version, reducing the length of the most popular topics. The changes suggest that we should separate our single topics into four, three of which will receive next to no replies (nullifying their reason for existence - performance gains) and two of those will be nearly completely useless in the first place.

I had a reply, then my brain failed. But I agree mate.
I think we should all solve this by (nicely) PMing BlueSteel about it. Put forth your own individual reason why texture packs should keep their forum structure as-is. If we get enough people, hopefully we can get his attention. Obviously, although he says he's asked for popular opinion, he obviously hasn't taken into account that texure packs and mods are two completely different things.
I have an idea... Ez is still an admin on these forums, right?
We could try to get her attention as well. She'd probably be willing to listen, if she's not too busy. Someone send her a link over Twitter to this thread...

we could just see what faust has to say? as he is one of the artist on here :wink.gif:
OnTopic: I hate the idea of this. why complicate something already so good! Just get new mods otherwise i will HATE posting on the forums...And i'm sure people don't want me to leave right? (right? ya'know, cus i'm awesome and all...)
It works the way it is. Changing it will introduce other issues. Listed (from what I saw) were reasons on Curse's end to assist with the search engine etc, I call bull on that, that's no good reason for ruining a perfectly good forum structure.
I could understand ONLY the MOD forum being separated as listed. But for Texture Packs and such? That's so stupid it's not funny.
PS: It's worrying when an admin can't spell his own username correctly...
*sigh*. So they'll force me to create another thread that will be pointless anyway, cluttering things up even more?
I don't think they CAN. There's only one moderator active round here (Faust), and he's not even supportive of the idea (as far as I know)... so... can they actually force me? With what manpower? :tongue.gif:
Besides, all it's gonna do is create extra clutter.
What kind of pedantic **** is this? They're just making more work for themselves when it comes to the texture packs sub-forum, we don't have enough mods as-is, so let's multiply all threads x4 with no good reason?
I'm convinced Curse hasn't a clue what they're doing when it comes to some of the finer points of this community. They're not familiar enough with what exactly a texture pack is and how it works, so they think it's just as complex as other mods and needs the same structure. (Even when it comes to mods, I'd break it down into bugs/help and comments/suggestions/about. There needs to be discussion in the main thread to keep it bumped up, man.)
I also can't see the real point of a WIP section for texture packs. Our WIPs are quite usable and they won't ruin your game or your worlds in any way, so while having a thread labeled as WIP can be helpful, it's not even a big deal.
This reminds me of the whole one link in your signature thing. Curse rolls in and assumes it knows what it's doing, because that totally worked for their other communities, but they didn't get that many people making texture packs have more than one they might like to link to in their signature.
They don't really want to ask for feedback from the community, they just want to do it their way without getting to know why things are the way they are. For some sections it won't matter. But I foresee a lot of would-be texture pack artists not bothering with this ****.
Oh well. It was good while it lasted here, right guys? Hopefully some of you will come over to MinecraftCustomizer when you've decided you're tired of it and I'll see you there.
My texture pack is WIP. Having it sectioned off will drastically reduce the (small) amount of people that go to my thread. I've had really nice comments on my pack. No-one will look in the WIP section proposed, and my pack will be cast into the void. :sad.gif:
But I love your pack! If it becomes walled off i'll make sure I have a link to your pack on my packs main page ;D
I think when I eventually finish my pack, if this sort of thing goes ahead, I'd just keep to one thread. It's just extra hassle.
That's my one and only option as far as I'm concerned. If anyone thinks I have the time to set up and run more than one thread, they might as well go and delete me now. Seriously! :dry.gif:
Don't forget admin recently told us it wasn't possible to create a separate thread for remix packs, it would be too much hassle, yet here we have a proposal for setting up a spaghetti forum.
It really is a joke to think that creating extra threads is going to make life easier or more logical for everyone looking for a texture pack or wishing to ask something of the creator. And this is supposed to make life easier for artists who already contribute much of their work for free? It just seems like an idea for creating more work for everyone...users and contributors!
What perfect timing too. On the cusp of one of the biggest updates in Minecraft history and all modders have to start setting up extra threads?
Contributing on this forum seems more and more like a 'planning application' and less and less like the fun it should be. :sad.gif:

I'll follow you once it can handle a 256x pack with tons of options...lol
Until then, I don't think it's Curse that is the problem with this. This forum is run separately from Curse's mod posting, and THAT is the problem. I think if we do what bukkitdev is doing, as in hosting our mods on curse, and keeping a single forum thread for comments and update info with a link to the curse post it would solve all of our issues. It would require less work for the moderators on the forums, and make use of a damn good mod hosting system that is proven to be one of the best.
I have years of experience with Curse and think this would be the best idea, and hope at least a few people will check into it and make an informed opinion of what I'm suggesting. I honestly think it would be a good step for structuring the Minecraft modding community overall. one thread in the texture packs forum, and one post on Curse. Simple.
Hey guys? Maybe we should actually bring up our issues with someone? I'm not sure who that'd be, maybe we could move discussion to the Forum Discussion & Info section, though my experience tells me that's just the place where Curse tells us this is how things are and no real discussion is necessary, we've already decided without user input and our limited information on things is fine to work with.
Edit: In light of Grugsy's post, it seems I myself am ill-informed. Who, exactly, is making these stupid decisions then?
That's my one and only option as far as I'm concerned. If anyone thinks I have the time to set up and run more than one thread, they might as well go and delete me now. Seriously! :dry.gif:

Good work Feathers and Dorian.
Yeah, like you I dont have time to manage multiple threads PLUS I'll wanna be playing 1.8, not worrying how my threads are doing...

Curse PremiumSorry, sometimes my brain just shits on the keyboard.
It's kinda like reading tea leaves.

Curse PremiumYessir. My bugs and help topics will say, "I don't read these, post on the main thread."
mine won't read anything cause they will not exist.

the rules read that you won't be allowed to have just one thread.
