I have already gone through a few textures, but none of them feel right.

It's mostly opinion. I for one use my own texture pack. If you're even remotely good at pixel art, grab yourself Gimp 2.6 and edit the "terrain.png" in the minecraft jar and get to work.

Now the best of anything is a matter of opinion. But i really like the Sphax PureBDcraft

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it, but I'm going to go with Sphax.
One question though, any way to change the crosshair?

The file GUI.png in Minecraft.jar\GUI\ has the crosshair in it.

Have you tried using photorealism? Honestly it's probably one of the best, scratch that, THE besttexture pack out there
