All you really need is experience and a tad of artistic talent.
Once you get the hang of whatever photo-editing program you're using i'm pretty sure it'll come out great. However you really need to balance that out with artistic talent. You can't really rush texture packs if you want them to be in great quality. So you'll definitely need patience.
I've started my texture pack & it isn't my first. Although i've worked on old texture packs and dropped them, it really has helped me because it got me experience :happy.gif:

Go check out some of my suggestions on my profile, in the about me tab!
yeah I tried. I just am not good with shading and shaping. I can see in my mind what i want but I have so much trouble actually making it. I also am empty on ideas.
You have to be good at it or else it will look like ****.
.. That helps..
as for making the pack, I suggest downloading other packs and looking at the terrain.png's in them and from that you can get good ideas. Hope this helped
Read some tutorials before you start. Don't just jump into it without knowing what you're doing. It's a lot of hardwork and you'll most likely never finish the pack if you aren't serious about it.
Here's some tuts to get started:
Yea but i feel those ideas were already created I want to try try something unique
Heya, the best advice I can give is don't try to be 100% unique and original on your first go, because 99% of the time, you're going to get frustrated and quit. I know that feeling of wanting to do something, having an idea and having nearly no way to complete it. Like others have said above, you need experience.
Think of it this way, no person would ever say: "I think I'm going to be a carpenter and the first thing I'm going to build is a house." It'll never work and no one does that, so don't be so hard on yourself. You need to just start a pack, and just try to do the basics (stone, dirt, grass, cobble, gravel). You don't even need to complete it, but just set a small goal for yourself. Once you get those done, you'll probably have some other ideas, before you know it, you're super eager to start some other textures.
One thing I constantly see on the texture pack forums is people eager to make a texture pack, they're full of ideas and visual design, just busting at the seams with creativity, but with limited experience with the tools. They then get discouraged and then you never hear from them again.
So, pick a program (I recommend Photoshop, but Gimp is free and pretty much just as good), set a small goal for yourself. and TAKE YOUR TIME :smile.gif: I don't think a lot of people realize how much time gets dumped into full texture pack overhauls.
Thanks you guys are a great help! I have made a few 16x16 customs for myself and i do look at a lot of other packs. I feel like trying a 32x32 if anyone can give me all the 1.8 files that are already set up as 32x32 I would love that! And make them png files!
