Hello there, welcome to the world of Pokémon,
This is a just-for-fun Texture Pack based on the Pokémon Red and Blue versions, where most textures and images have been replaced by Pokémon to simulate the Pokémon-rich environments of the original games. This started as a fun side-project and actually ended up being quite a bit of work, which is why it now has its own thread and everything.
The entire pack is almost exclusively in black and white, with the notable exceptions being the biome colours (which are evenly divided between red and blue), the liquids, some items, paintings and everything which emits light. Almost everything is taken from the Red, Blue or Green versions of the game, although there's a few things (most notably most of the Pokémon) taken from other Pokémon games for the gameboy (usually Gold and Silver).
I'm usually one of those nitpickers who refer to the original Pokémon games as "Red and Green", but I've decided to go with Red and Blue because that's probably what most of you are familiar with (and because Pokémon Blue was my first console game).
I'm not going to post a list of which Pokémon is what or which mob is which pokémon, you're going to have to venture into the World of Pokémon™ and find out yourself! Also, Creeper is Exeggutor.
What should be Frequently Asked Questions if not for this list:
- What are the minecarts based on?
The truck located close to the S.S. Anne, only reachable using a rather odd surf glitch. I honestly couldn't come up with a suitable Pokémon.
- How do you explain the fact that the Oddish and Rattata (?) are usually halfway inside the block?
They're hiding in the Tall Grass™! Bring some Repel!
- Wait, are you using burning Bellsprouts as torches?
Yes.
- Why are you reusing some Pokémon like Shellder, Bulbasaur and Jigglypuff?
Because I'm lazy and there are only 151 Pokémon to choose from.
- Why didn't you use Gold and Silver as your basis?
Where's the challenge in that? You could probably make a Gold/Silver Texture Pack in half a day, chop chop!
- Why does Pokémon X do Y?
Because I'm using Pokémon as items, don't expect this to make sense.
- Where did you get the Bellsprout, Venonat, Wigglytuff, Electrode, etc. textures?
They're based on the original sprites, but are essentially my own creation.
- Changelog?
Too lazy.
Where did you find the art for the paintings?
They're from the Pokémon Trading Card Game video game for the Gameboy.
- How in the world do 2 sticks and a badge turn into a sandshrew?
Magic.
- Why did you release this so close to 1.8?
Because it's done now and I wanted to post it, I'll update it when 1.8 comes out (given a few days, probably).
Other Notes:
- I did not rip most of these textures myself, most of them come from either vgmaps.com or spriters-resource.com.
- Pokémon and most of the things in this pack are owned by Nintendo Inc., Creatures Inc. and GAME FREAK and are used under Fair Use. Anything else can be used freely (although it would be nice of you to notify me beforehand), as long as you do not claim it as your own and link back to this thread when distributing publicly.
Cool idea, looks like it came out pretty well. Looking forward to trying it out for a fun, but definitely not the most practical of texture packs... But I guess that's the point!
I might have an update out later this week, but I can't guarantee anything, especially since I'm planning on purchasing Pandora's tower later today, which'll probably eat up most of my free time this week.
Ah yes, that would be because the 1.7 in the title refers to Beta 1.7. I haven't been able to make this one up-to-date yet.
If you want to try it out, here's a converted version, but a lot of textures (including tall grass) will be missing: https://dl.dropboxus...ed and Blue.zip
When I've updated my other texture pack, I might start working on this one again, but don't get your hopes up too much.
