When you resized it, it added more pixels. Resizing doesn't change the size of pixels, only the number. If you left it at 32x32, then it would've been a 2x2 pack. I think you'll find most people don't mind using MCPatcher.

Just to be clear, I'm not restarting this argument. I'm simply answering this question.
Anyway, the difference is performance. If the blocks were 2 pixels by 2 pixels, then Minecraft would run faster with lower specs. But once you add more pixels, the performance boost goes away.

or just crop and shrink...thats what i do
