Poll: Should we force people to go through a moderator with their pack
Should we force people to go through a moderator with their post and pack [including screenshots] before a texture pack thread should be allowed to be made?
This thread is based off of this one. I just thought I would continue this on and expand on it, giving some small tips on what to avoid doing at all costs.
As I noticed quite often, new '16x' packs keep popping up. Now whilst some of these creators have valid idea's and can turn around to make great, astounding packs, 90% of these packs turn out to be the EXACT. SAME. THING.
Now I am sure people on the forums have been wanting less and less of this [how do I know? Well i'v been talking to them in PMs]. So this will be a small compilation of what you should DO and NOT DO before you even DECIDE to make a texture pack, and when you ARE making it.
DO's:
Have an idea, theme or concept to work off of. Just "texturing" what comes to mind makes for a very poorly done pack. It's okay to keep texturing stuff until a concept or idea hits you for a general theme. But don't post your random packs until you've completed the terrain and it all melds well together.
Work on your pack, texturing atleast enough blocks to give a general "feel" for your pack before posting.
Try using search to see if your idea might already be done. This doesn't mean don't go ahead with your idea [as long as you aren't purposely ripping it off], but just try to avoid making your pack the same as someone else.
Keep constantly updated screenshots within a spoiler tag, so it doesn't cause peoples computers to slow to a crawl while the browser struggles to load 50 images.
Don't post a pack with a single texture done and no screenshots
Don't steal other peoples work and try to claim credit for it and using AdFly
Don't use solid colours and put filters over them
Don't "tweak" the Default textures and try to sell it off as your own original idea
Don't Saturate, Desaturate, Colourize, Lens Flare, Outline or make the same "simple" texture pack that everyone has made every day since texture packs have been released
Don't post half-completed works with download links
Don't post half-completed works with AdFly Links
Don't post a simple texture pack for "AdFly" money
Don't Create a Painterly Pack and post it as your own pack!
Don't post your lousy Remix packs!
Don't upscale to a higher resolution then post it. It looks crappy and ugly
These are the general tips that will keep people from all of the following:
1)Being a douche to you on your thread
2)Reporting you for intellectual theft
3)Giving lousy feedback.
This will also encourage people to:
1)Give helpful feedback
2)Be nice and offer to help you if you need it
3)People are more likely to try your pack out, and possibly suggest it in other threads if someone is looking for a pack, and they think yours would be what they want.
And it keeps all the people happy without having to deal with the same half-dozen threads a day where the pack is nothing new, just a rip-off of something someone else did.
This is a truly great thread, and I hope it encourages people to not make the same horribly designed and completely unoriginal packs they've made since I joined in September. Probably earlier, too.

I am hoping this as well. These threads are driving me NUTS. I go in, tell the person it's been done, or they are breaking the rules. And they act like they are Picaso and so original with their friggen packs. Driving me nuuuts.
You should also include something about people making crappy HD texture packs that consists of the whole landscape being a bunch of eyesore grain and speckles.
And yes, dictatorship is entirely necessary, I voted yes!

Added something for upscaling and making general grainy HD packs.
I voted no on the poll, only for the fact that these forums seem to have so few mods, and so many texture packs, that it could take days to get your pack approved, which I'd find pretty annoying. If they could get some sort of automated system, sure, but that then has its own problems.

I'd be fine waiting a couple days to be approved. Why? Well I could work on my pack in the mean-time anyways. If you're willing to put in the effort for a good pack, you shouldn't mind waiting a few days to post it on the forums. Should you?

Or, get some mew moderators who are dedicated. Anyone can post their own texture pack at any time, but if it does not follow guidelines, instant delete. No need for approval.

But the thing is, would you have to get your pack re-approved for every update you make? Every time you make a small change, do you have to wait for it to be allowed on the forum?
And yes, I suppose you shouldn't mind waiting a few days. I just have something against things like that, where you have to check in a couple times a day to see if your post has been approved. I guess it's just a personal pet peeve of mine.

I was thinking maybe the community of texture artists could have some sort of ability to decide if a pack should be removed.

It wouldn't be for every update. A texture pack post MUST adhere to the guidelines they set out. You make your thread and submit it to them. They go through and if it follows the correct guidelines, it can be posted publicly, and updated freely.
I disagree on the grainy HD pack stuff, as it is almost unavoidable with resolutions like 128x and 256x when making a realistic pack. You have mipmapping to counter it.

You can smooth, or just enlarge the pixels a bit. There are very obvious work-arounds, and is completely avoidable.
But yeah, I think its pretty okay if people would want to use mipmapping.

Well HD texture packs do tend to look a little grainy but. I think anyone actually doing packs of that high a resolution are doing a decent job anyways. Its more or less the 16x and 32x people try to do and do badly. Or don't put effort into and try to make money on it with AdFly

Added as well.

Shouldn't that be DON'T create a painterly pack and post it as your own pack? Either way, voted yes to the poll, cuz something needs to happen.

Edited it out
