I'm using the MC patcher, on a fresh install of MC and still getting nothing. It has both of the texture boxes grayed out, yet the better grass one is available. It finds the minecraft.jar just fine, and it created a minecraft-1.7.3.jar as well. I looked at where the app is looking, it's original is set to minecraft-1.7.3.jar and output to minecraft.jar, before I ran it, there wasn't a minecraft-1.7.3.jar, so I tried moving that file out of the location and set it to look for minecraft.jar as an orginal, but it still reverted back to minecraft-1.7.3.jar and then created one when I ran the patcher again... kinda confused here... :sad.gif:

Anybody got a clue what I'm doing wrong?
You need to patch minecraft and use a hd texturepack. it doesn't make hd textures, just repairs their look.

Restoring original minecraft.jar due to previous error
Ok, nevermind, ignore that last post. turns out I was using a copy of my minecraft jar that I had modded before. I've made several backups before and after every mod and that one got mislabled. I downloaded a fresh jar from notch's site and the patcher works just fine. Now though, I'm trying to use a texturepack "steampunk", I stillhave it zipped and in the texture folder, but it appears black and white and doesn't change anything if I choose to load it.
Yeah I've left them all zipped just they way they come. I tried putting a 128x texture pack in there and it showed up just fine but when I select it to use as a texture, my game locks up and crashes. I had to go into the options file and set it back to a working texture before I could even get it to boot again. I like using Optimine/Optifine since I'm running on my laptop (albeit, a good laptop with a good gpu, but still not as powerful as a tower) so I think I need to know step by step how to go about getting HD textures and optifine all running happily together. I read on the optifine post that I don't need MC patcher if I'm using it, so I tried that to no success, and It's just getting messy and frustrating, I'll probly be sticking with vanilla and no textures for a while since I can at least play it that way. :sad.gif: frustrated

If I helped you or if you like something I made, press the WHITE arrow inside of a GREEN 'square' at the bottom right!

Ah, see, that's where I went wrong. Thank you, I never saw anything tell me to leave them zipped and put them in there. Thank you!
I'm at work right now, but when I get home this evening, I'll try that and see if it works!
Thanks!
