I think it is finally time to open this idea up to the public, and I need to recruit some people to assist in this.
I AM LOOKING FOR MODDERS AND TEXTURE MAKERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCE!!!!
Please comment if you are interested in helping.
I have had this idea, and have been working on it since January, roughly. [I took a long break from it because I was told 512x wasn't possible, which it wasn't at the time]
Here is the story/idea.
When you begin a new world, you do not start on the "default" minecraft that looks like earth. You begin on an alien world, which is characterized by large tall jungles with very tall trees, floating mountains, craters, volcanos, cliffs, canyons, large vast fields, and underground lakes. The map height will be either 256 or 512. The alien world replaces the default minecraft world [it is not another dimension, like the aether, moon mod, or mars mod]. On the alien world, there is much biofluorescence, and carnivorous plants. Vines grow up structures, and are able to be climbed. After mining down to the bowels of the planet (the Alien world will be at least 256 blocks tall), you can eventually mine "obsidian", which is used to create a wormhole/stargate [portal]. This wormhole/stargate takes you to: Earth! [default minecraft].
From Earth, you have the same experience as default minecraft.
OPTION 1: You can build a portal to the nether, and the Sky Dimension, once that is released. I will plan on adding more dimensions and portals to different areas as well.
OPTION 2: The Nether is not a separate dimension. The map height for the "earth" part of it is *in testing, so the actual value is not final* 512. The transitions are smooth between each plane. This means that the top 128 height layers are a sky dimension. The middle 256 is middle earth, aka normal earth. After you diggy diggy hole down, the bottom 128 are the Nether, at the bottom of which is bedrock. Now, this is only applicable to the "Earth" world in my modpack.
In both options, the only way back to the Alien world is through the wormhole in which you came, though. The alien world also has a unique type of building material that can be crafted out of one of the alien ores, and it allows for instant transportation between two points in the same plane.
This is a small summary of the mod, and I am really looking for a team that will be able to create the coding necessary for these changes. I understand that it is a HUGE overhaul, and I am looking for 5 total modders that can help with the project and 5 total texture artists, but am always open to having having more talent on the team to help finish the project before the full release of minecraft. I have been working on the terrain.png for the alien world for a while now, and it is coming along nicely. I must point out that the default resolution is 512x, but I plan on making it available in other resolutions as well.
This mod will feature a unique installation process that will patch itself onto the game and allocate memory for you automatically. Also, due to the massive size of the worlds and high-definition textures, we will include mipmapping options and something similar to Optifine that only renders visible blocks to save on memory.
Some specific additions:
1. 3 more clay blocks that drop a unique clay item that each can be crafted into a corresponding brick block. This way there are more to choose from. I will texture each a different color.
2. Adding 3 more ore blocks and ores [items]. I have ideas for them but all I know is one powers a furnace indefinitely, and will be sort of like uranium.
3. Adding 2 more types of glowstone that each drop a unique glowstone powder [more to come from this, but this will be step one]
4. Glowing Sludge! It is thick, has a light glow, and slows movement. It is a liquid, and I can animate it like water or lava, if you can make that possible. It can't be moved except of its own accord, e.g. it can't be picked up, but it can flow where you dig a path for it.
5. Plant mobs
6. Animated sky
7. Unique installation.

a few teasers.
edit: dropbox failed on me, so I will make sure to update with some screenshots of what I have so far.
The team so far: Texture Artists:
--> Scuttles, primary focus on Earth's terrain.png
---> Myself, primary focus on Alien Planet's terrain.png, particles, custom: water(s), lava(s), and portal(s); weather, artwork [actually, this is only going to be a placeholder, there will be a screenshot contest after the full release, and the winners will have their screenshots featured as art for this pack!], sun(s), moon(s), and Let's just say a lot of things.
--> TehDebil, primary focus so far helping with terrain.png, developed the flowers and is working on the bed currently [inactive?]
---> (empty)
--> (empty)
Texture Progress (green=completed, yellow=in progress, red=not started yet)
-biome colors for water, foliage, and grass
-terrain.png for alien world, roughly 35%
-weather stuff, roughly 65%
-The rest of the pack
Mod Team:
--> jonas03a, primary focus on changing map height currently. [inactive?]
---> nick248, primary focus on mob modeling currently. [inactive?]
--> Stefenatefun, primary focus on block additions currently. [inactive?]
---> Avorgian, primary focus on all of the coding. (I'm sure he'd like help :wink.gif: )

Mod Progress: (green=completed, yellow=in progress, red=not started yet)
-none yet
-Height change to 512
-the rest of the mods
I will be adding to this post as I compile all the information I have been planning for this mod/texture pack. If you have any suggestions, please comment and let me know what they are :smile.gif:

a few teasers. Some of these textures have changed since the screenshots.

If you're looking for coding, why the hell did you post this in the Texture Packs forum?
Because it's also a texture pack, and I wanted to post it sooner than later. That way no one takes my idea [even though I've had the idea since January :tongue.gif: ]
I am also trying to find some texture artists to design the following
--->GUI's [both earth and alien world]
--->Mobs [this will include additional mobs for the alien world]
--->items.png [for both earth and alien world]
Again, I must stress that this pack/mod is default in 512. I will make it available in lesser resolutions, but the resolution of all the graphics in it must be generated at 512 equivalent.
Anyone who wants to help, please comment and/or pm me
I can do alittle of the simple coding, most of the mob modeling, and/or be a tester.
Sweet! Do you mind if I give you some ideas for mobs that I have? You can take total creative interpretation of what I mean.
Also, what kinds of simple coding are you familiar with?
I would like to see 4 mobs that are carnivorous plants. One of them would take up one block's worth of space, one would take up a 1x2 [1 wide, 2 tall] space, and the other I was hoping for a sort of plant that is low to the ground and closes around you [like a venus flytrap, for example], and suffocates you if you dont kill it before you run out of air. The other mob would be like a tree, but has vines that attack when you are close.
Also, if you think of any alien mobs that are animals, feel free to do them too! If you need help texturing the mobs, I have a few texture artists that can help with that.
I do think you're suffering because you're in the texture pack forum, not the modding discussion forum, saying your texture team is nearly full, I do not see why you did post in this sub-forum at all.
Saying that; I 'support' this idea, I put the quotations in because, I don't use mods, but the obvious creativity in fleshing out an idea and knowing how it'll look is admirable in my eyes.
:smile.gif:
Thanks for the feedback. The reason I include this here is that it is a texture pack in addition to a modpack

I'll try my best at the models. (I can really only code tools and things like that)
Thanks! :smile.gif:
We definitely have our work cut out for us.
If you are interested in helping, let me know. We will also be needing testers once we get enough of the mod compiled

I would love to test.
The only thing i want to know,
Does it involves a super high quality texture pack? Cause the highest I've ever pushed my computer up is 128x.
Also, I think I can help with some of the things, it depends.

btw, nice avatar. :tongue.gif:
The game will be default in 512x, but I am using vectors to create the textures so I can scale down nicely for lesser resolutions. And I will need testers for all resolutions, so I'd love to have you!
What kinds of things do you think you can help with?
looks amasing, great idea
unfortunately im no artist or coder so i cant help..
That's alright buddy :smile.gif:
If you would like to be a beta tester, I'd love to have you. I will *hopefully* have enough of the texture side of it working by Sept. 10th
Sure thing! What would you like to try first? Or, rather, what are you comfortable doing at this point in time?
Well, since I can't successfully run even a 128x texture pack at this time, I'd have to start out with something else. I have pretty crappy computer specs, but the worst part is that I only have 4GB DDR2 RAM. I'm guessing coding would be the first step for now.
