I couldn't help but notice that no one really makes texture packs for fun. Now everyone's doing it to make adf.ly money. And now people are being all copyright nazi, what with the KREDIT MEE IF U YUS ME TEXTHURRR PAX IN VIDEOH AND NO TAKIN 1 TEXHURRR FRUM HOLE PACK WIFOUT PERMISHUN AND NO YUSING ADFLY
Seriously, the point of texture packs to benefit your fellow MCer and have fun. Not to make money, claim the textures as your own, and get all legal on people's asses for taking one texture and adflying their pack. What happened to corrupt everyone (Dokucraft Continuation, much?)
Not all of us make texture packs to make money. Sure, I made $7.50 this month from it, but that's not the only reason I made my texture pack. I made it because I enjoy making textures. I enjoy making stuff for people to enjoy. The money is a bonus and incentive to work even harder.
As for the copyright stuff, if you ever make your own pack, you'll see that it's not that fun to have people steal your work. You work hard on something and somebody else gets all the credit because they decide it looks cool and decide to take it? Nah. Not in my book.

Copyright stuff? Some texturers are actually cool about it, like you. But, say, DokuCraft continuers have a mass legal section on "CREDIT IF IN VIDEO", "NO ADFLY IF U USE EVEN 1 OF R TEXS", "NO COPPEEING WITHOUT PURRRRMISHUN".
Texture copyright should be a matter of courtesy, not go all legalistic. Politely ask them to not use your texture, don't get all lawyer.

People just don't want their work stolen, that's all.
The primary purpose of creating anything is to make yourself happy. If letting people claim your textures as their own makes you happy, feel free. I would be pissed.
The reason people are saying not to use adfly when re-posting their works is because it's really irritating to see someone using your work for profit- whether they have permission or not can really change this, but for the most part it is incredibly annoying and stressful. Texture packs are a form of art at this point, and although I'm not the best texture pack editor, I draw, and having been in an art community for ages, I can tell you that it's serious business when someone steals your artwork and claims it as their own. Would you want something you worked really hard on to be taken away without permission and your name/recognition erased from it? Especially if the person was making money off of it, money that you might be making otherwise? And if you made it for non-profit purposes, it's painful to see someone take it and earn some money from it - if anyone should be earning something, it's the creator, the person who worked really hard on it. Not some random person who happened to like the textures and thought it'd be fun to upload them as their own.
Even if you don't give a crap about whether you earn money or not, it's still demotivating and hurtful when someone steals something you made. The reason people want you to credit them is so that other people know where to get the pack if they're curious about it. Plus, when you work hard on something, you want to be the one to get recognition for it. As I've stated before, it's infuriating when someone steals something you worked hard on just to make a quick profit. It's rude and inconsiderate towards the texture pack creator, and while it's probably impossible to stop just as the theft of internet drawings is inevitable, it doesn't make it any less wrong.
...rant over. In all seriousness, though, maybe you should look into why people do these things instead of just complaining about it. It's true that some people really do need to take a chill pill with the whole 'earning money from texture packs' thing, but I'm pretty sure the majority of good pack makers are doing it for FUN, not for profit.

Case in point, I only put up a donate button on my packs because certain fans of mine wouldn't stop badgering me about it. You know who you are.
Texture packs take ages to conceive an idea for and complete. As long as someone is working on something for others to enjoy, why shouldn't they ask for donations or make it easier and let you X out of an ad.
I will point out a logic flaw of yours Mr. topic creator.
Make a texture pack, a good one. See how long it takes. I've spent over 20 hours on 6 blocks that all need to be remade and an axe that needs to be refined for a 32x practice pack that I may or may not release. I assume there are plenty others that put more time and effort into it than I do. That's basically having a job you don't entirely hate. That you don't get paid for. And that people can just steal and post somewhere else and claim it as their own.
That's where the copyright and ad.fly come in.
People put months of work into a 2d picture for a game that may or may not be around for long. There is no doing it for anything other than fun. And getting paid less than a job would give you in an hour over the time of a week? Sounds like less than enough money for the months you have to continue to work on it for updates. So no, you don't know what you're talking about, you don't know what it takes to make a pack, you don't know anything about this section. Get the **** off.
Well, thanks to you, all 3 of the sections I visit frequently (Beta-Survival Mode, Suggestions, Texture Packs) all **** me off. You ruined the last section I enjoyed.
Real texture artists do it for fun and only use ad.fly if they're having serious employment problems in the real world due to the limited modern job market.
Licences are mandatory via the forum rules.
I guarantee that someone has already said both of these but this thread is a tl;dr.
well, I am suprised that this hasn't been mentioned. The copyright thing is REQUIRED BY THE ADMINS!!!
Yeah, Required. Granted the terms of the licence are up to the creator but needless to say it is there.
Speaking from my stance. I am using all of this work; My texture pack and any other graphics I make to build a portfolio for computer animation and graphic design. I DO NOT want someone to steal my work. I can just imagine it. I go into a job interview with my portfolio in hand and go to show off my work and get shot down because someone else stole my work and proliferated it. There are other people on this forum who are also in the same position. We have a professional integrity to maintain. I know this sounds silly with a game like minecraft but it is damned good practice.
As for adf.ly. Stop bitchin. I want my $1 a month and I will get it. So what if you have to wait 5 whole seconds. I spent 100+ hours on my work! you can spend 5 secs downloading it.

Firstly, about the "copyrights". Licensing texture packs, mods, and maps, under a Creative Commons license is not only smart, but it is a requirement for work on this forum. If you don't list a license in your topic, your thread will be removed. It's as simple as that. Now, licensing is a good thing. It's a great thing. It means that if someone is using my work without permission I have legal power against him. It means that no one will use my work without permission. Whether I'm making textures for profit or passion, that is a good thing. What you don't understand is that it's not always as simple as "asking" people to not use your work. Sometimes you need to tell them, and now we can. Efficiently. With legal backing. Keep in mind that there are a variety of CC licenses that allow people to use your work without permission, and all of them allow people to use your work with permission. The only thing that's changed is now some people have to ask for permission, and wait for it to be granted - a courtesy that not many people would give texture artists.
Secondly, you really have no business criticizing whether or not people choose to make profit on their texture pack. Texture packs take countless hours of work, and I honestly believe that someone who puts in so much effort and shares it for free deserves some reimbursement. Keep in mind that most adf.ly links are optional downloads, and there are usually ad-free downloads available.
I really haven't a clue why anyone would complain about what texture artists do with their own work. Why anyone would complain about these people protecting what they've spent hours creating; Preventing people from stealing and taking credit for their work. Why anyone would complain about people making money off their hard work when they're not even charging for it.

do you know how to get to the Netherlands other than a portal
With the ad-fly I think some people deserve it. But theres nothing worse than some person coming out with a simple pack and using ad-fly. It just looks like making easy mony. For the copyright I think nobody should work really hard to please people just to see others benefiting and stealing their creations. It's just sad to see really.
People still do it for fun. but with a service like adfly, its really easy to make pocket change off your work. its not too annoying using adfly links, right?
and copyright so people dont steal thier junk and make money off it too, simple.
