Give him a break because it's his first? Just because it's his first doesn't mean it's automatically not bad. By being told your texture pack isn't the best, it makes you want to improve on it.
If you release a texture pack that was incredibly bad, but everyone was trying to be nice and said it was 'amazing' and 'great' you wouldn't change it because everyone was happy with it. You need to be able to strive to make things better.
CrazyPineapple, I'm not going to candy-coat my response. The texture pack is bland and bad, it's generic. I am in no way attempting to be rude or disrespectful here, I'm offering constructive criticism. It's up to you if you want to accept it.
Make something special. Work on it hard, watch tutorials and such. If you're using something like MS Paint, get Gimp or Paint.Net. Check out MLGM's tutorial. If you work hard enough you'll create something people will enjoy.
Good luck, man.

This reminds me of how I started making my texture pack when it was at the time just for my own personal use, plain colors and what not. But over time I started messing around with giving blocks designs in a different color than the main block color, I also made it so my colors were not taken directly from the color pad, I went into each color I used and changed it (increasing and decreasing the RGB values and light/dark additions) and found that it really helped the textures.
Basically, just start with 1 texture, dirt/stone is a good choice and spend an hour or two working on just those two textures until you come up with something unique, look at them in-game, and if you are satisfied with them base the rest of your pack or most of it, off of those 2 textures. Try to make all the other block textures compliment the stone/dirt and see what stuff looks like next to the other textures in the pack.
ALSO this is key, always listen to what people say that do and dont like. If multiple people do not like a particular texture, try re-working it as best you can.
Hope this helps you out :smile.gif:
P.S
I started working on my pack in the beginning of summer, and by the end of summer I had only completed maybe 20 textures. This was because I was still trying to get everything to work well with everything else. But since I released it in beta, I have been working overtime on textures and what not.

It makes me so mad that people automatically start flaming because it's a simple texture pack. I like the texture pack, CrazyPineapple. I support you. :smile.gif:
Well, I'm glad the flaming didn't get out of hand like on some "simple pack" threads.
Anywho, I feel like adding to the advice already given. First, I'll give you the same advice I give most new texturers; check the other simple pack threads to see how people reacted and responded. Sometimes its not a pretty site, but such is life at times, so try improving off the misfortune of others who didn't get a handle on people's responses to their kind of texture first.
Now, to improve the pack, you need to know that a lack of shading is why this is a "simple" pack. to add shading, just make colours darker in some spots to reduce contrast, and add noise to make it more realistic. From there, make the top left of any reflective material (like glass or diamond in diamond ore) whitish, this make it look like it's shining.
In short, noise is key, a good texture has a whole lot of different colours (or shades, for that matter) in every block, while yours heading for a simple style, it's best to add shading early on to make it realistic.

ALL?
So, 15 hours for 6 blocks and an ax in 32x that all need to be refined or done completely over, and I'm starting there? Well damn, I shoulda made a simple pack!
OT: Please stop helping the income of simple packs. They really do clutter the front page (from the hate received), pushing the packs with alot of work put into them. I won't hate because I just got off of a post about the "over-commercialization" of texture packs, and relieved all my hate for the hour there. I would recommend starting fresh, on a more detailed pack. If you don't, I will have plenty hate tomorrow.
So you can wait for my hate to refill or start new. Your choice. Its already a quarter of the way back, I can tell because I feel like I should punch my wall. So I'm ****ing ending this here.

Why dont you all just like STFU about simple packs already, You know, it seems simple packs have a **** ton more downloads then all of the super epic detailed packs. Personally detailed packs to me look like **** in a game where detail is not relevant.
You really need to quit flaming people. I can support whoever I want for whatever REASON I WANT.
For instance, in this case, if I did not already have a pack I would put his banner in my sig. why you may ask? Because he is new and trying, yet all of you douche bags keep coming in here and flaming people like the assholes you are because they tried to make a pack and it was not up to your amazingly high standards.
Seriously, people like you should have a whole other forum. Maybe the Asshole Texture pack forum?

You can get the code for it in the first post!

I hope I've been of assistance. :smile.gif:
