This texture pack is NOT for anyone whom is looking to have the best 32x can offer. Before leaving comments, good or bad, please realize I made this so Minecraft could have a small upgrade whilst still trying to maintain the simplicity of 16x. I wanted to make something a bit smoother, and more blended. Not something that pushes 32x packs to the best they can possibly be!
Also. If anyone knows a tutorial on animating water or editing it, please let me know :smile.gif:. I keep googling it but it brings up nothing but topics of people saying it's not possible, when it obviously is.
Rest of Terrain.png finished [This is for the exception of Sponge, and a few others that I don't know what they are, or they come out all messed up if I try to edit them.
Also have no idea how to edit the water or animate it. So I'd be grateful if anyone could lead me to something that can teach me, since i'v yet to find anything through google.

The top of the grass, whilst turned out close to what I wanted, isn't exactly what I wanted. It's also got some really easy tiling fix issues, but for now I just need grass to be a place holder, and at a short distance you can't really notice.
The side of the grass looks bad I know. I don't really know WHY it's happening. I assume it's got something to do with the Grass texture and Side-Grass textures. I'll figure that out once I get some more textures done
No download link. No point in one. I will put one up when 99-100% of the terrain textures are done.

For starters, my name is Tyler and I am a 22 year old student currently taking post secondary for Computer Systems Technology. I have an abundant passion for Computers, as well as Video games, so you can imagine I spend an absurd amount of time behind some sort of screen, case or otherwise technical machine.
I figured I would add this, as I have been putting a decent amount of effort into this pack, and thought this might make a nice small addition to my post!
The main reason I started this Texture Pack, is because I wanted to see if I could see it through to the end and complete it. Even if it doesn't look the best, even if no one wants to use it. Since anything artistic or creative is not something that comes easy to me, I want to try to push myself to overcome the difficulty and create something!
Well, the story behind this pack goes back a few months. I had been using a few texture packs, and it had gotten me into thinking of creating my own. However, due to my severe lack of imagination [that may show up in this pack :wink.gif:], I had absolutely no idea what to even begin doing for it.
A bit later I posted a topic in the general discussion about not having any idea's for a pack, and a kindly gentleman suggested I create a pack based off the game [i]Half-Minute Hero[/i], and linked me to some videos. It was definitely a kick of inspiration, and I LOVED the concept and already had ideas bouncing around my head for the terrains. Unfortunately, my severe lack of artistic capabilities was to much of a match for my imagination, so that idea quickly went down the drain.
HOWEVER.
It was while failing horribly in GIMP, trying out the textures that I found out just what I think I could do for a pack. After messing around and getting a few textures done, I immediately liked the idea and started taking to it.
Now you may be wondering what the idea is, and plain and simple, it is anywhere from a couple, to several layers of different textures, colours, effects, etc that are gradually put together to form the final texture. I was always into Photoshop back in Grade Nine, all the way through high-school, and taught myself how to use the effects of it. Now, whilst I no longer have Photoshop sadly, GIMP does offer few of the same types of tools, just cheaper, lousier versions of it.
I originally started the pack in 16x, however there just wasn't enough details to allow for proper effects, blurs, smudges and general colour blending for my tastes. At the same time, however, I felt 32x was TOO much detail for myself. So I decided to combine the two together, and aim for a 32x pack that will look nicer than the 16x, but not as nice as the 32x. I feel this will let Minecraft maintains it's simplicity without going to far over the edge in graphical detail.
Below I will be uploading close-up images of my textures. I have removed ALL outstanding screenshots [save a few] to re-upload them. This is mainly due to the main grass texture being changed and being completely different from most of my other screenshots. With each new update, I add more and more screenshots.
Seems like my idea's come quicker and quicker now, though sometimes still takes me awhile to think of an idea for a texture
Still sort of unhappy with grass and cobble stone. For now they can be place holders, they aren't to bad of an attempt I think.
Cobble is giving me some trouble. Whenever I try to do a design for "bricks" or "natural" cobble, it doesn't seem to turn out how I imagined. Keeping cobble as a brick-ish for now on since, if anything, it's something that tiles well for building.
REALLY happy with how my Wooden planks came out. Asides for a small tiling issue I had near the top [where it was a really thick line of lighter colour due to top and bottom both ending with light colours] it turned out exactly how I wanted. Also fixed the tiling so now I move on with more textures!
So far TNT is easily my favourite texture I finished. I put quite awhile into it [probably about 2 hours], testing out different colours and ideas. I wanted to pull away from the original TNT text on the default pack, so I think colour swaping the text and changing it slightly goes nice with the darker colour that the TNT has. Really happy with myself on this one.
Chests turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Granted, I so feel it looks a BIT weird in the front since the design lines up perfectly with something thats supposed to be the lid. I am fine with it though.
So far, all in all i'm enjoying myself doing the texture pack. Can't explain how awesome it feels to actually, visually, see the effort of your work in an open world, where it all just is there for you to see and take in.
I was so very disappointed when I learned that I was not able to create a transparent Glowstone. Like, utterly sad. I had wanted to start off with the center of the glowstone being a solid, dark blue, then as it went out, slowly increase the opacity, whilst also making the blue lighter and lighter. When I realized I couldn't do this, I had trouble doing the Glow stone. Personally I wanted to pull away from the "yellow" glowstone. To me it always seemed like it should be a bit blue/white. So this is a mixture of blue and white with some lighting effects over it to make it look brighter, whilst even during the day.
When I woke up at 2PM [no joke lol], I got to work on trying to do Sand and Gravel. Neither turned out right because it's hard to capture that "sandy, and gravel" look with the softer texture look I am going for. And making it grainy seemed to add to issues where it looked like it didn't belong. I re-tried at about 2am and nailed both I think. I am SUPER happy with how the sand turned out. It's got a soft look from a distance, but if you go and look closely at it, you can see the different blended light colours. Gravel is a BIT more pixelated than other textures, but it still melts well with the world because it's gravel. It's always underground or near bodies of water. Both tile well in my opinion.
I had a little bit of trouble with the wood logs. Mainly because by going for my soft angle, it turns out looking kinad blurry and nothing like a tree trunk. So I opted to keep the dark lines still pretty visible. I think it worked pretty well. The "flesh" of the tree trunk turned out nice for the Birch and dark wood log. However, with the light one it looks sort of off but it's not to bad overall. I made the top look a little more... "designed" because I like to furnish my homes in minecraft, and I tend to put logs into the corners of my rooms and put crafting tables / furnaces around it. So it looks like almost an expansion to a counter top of sorts.
I am beginning to notice I can do this alot easier and better when its between 1AM-6AM. Seems about right, baha.
Oh GOD am I friggen tired. Just spent a good 5-6 hours straight on GIMP tonight.
You may notice a similarity on some of the ores to another texture pack. I do not recall which pack it was, but I used it a few months ago and LOVED how the ores looked like they were "bursting" out of the stone. I decided to use this for my Coal, Gold and Diamond. I did this off the top of my head as well. I didn't look at the other pack to make it. Saying that, I am super happy how the ores turned out for the most part.
I was sort of stumped at first for what to do for Iron. Then I remembered Iron is found in veins of rock, so I decided to try and hit that "vein" feeling when I did the iron. It's a bit.. meh I think compared to the other ores. But I think, at the very least, I nailed the colours for it!
Redstone was similar to me. I couldn't picture how redstone would be "found", then I realized it's "dust" that comes from the rock. So I did a similar vein effect as the Iron, except I took it in a different direction.
The ice has some white-ish spots on it. I more or less did this for realism because in real life, it's very very rare to find perfectly smooth looking ice. So I think this adds a nice touch of difference compared to some of the other ice people have. I absolutely love how the ice turned out. I MIGHT go back and remove a bit of the white, or make it more transparent, but that will be a ways away if I do.
The snow was pretty easy. I feel it MIGHT be a bit to bright. I tried to aim for that "snowblind" feeling I get after coming inside after about 30 minutes of walking in the snow, and I think I nailed it. After walking around in game for 5 minutes, I turned away and my eyes immediately made everything darker lol. I am pretty happy how it and the side snow turned out. On a side note, when in a shadow, the snow get's an odd... look to it. Not sure if I like it or not. I Don't hate it, but I don't love it. I'm sort of indifferent to it at this point.
Crafting Table was something I aimed to make less like a "crafting table" and more like something you can use to decorate a house with. I decided to stray away from the "tools" on the front and side of the table, and worked it as just a simple piece of furniture that doubles as a crafting table. I also used the same design that my my chests, because I really like how the design works with some of the other textures.
I feel sort of cheap because I used the Slab textures for my furnace and dispenser. Now for the furnace it seemed to work out pretty well, however the dispenser looks sort of odd and not right. I will end up retexturing it once I finish all the other terrain textures.
Glass. Glass glass glass glass glass. Not entirely happy with it. Don't hate it. The main problem is when I do my textures, I do them over multiple layers and at the end merge them all together. This let's me go ahead and add specific contrast, brightness, hues, etc to just specific parts of the texture without completely changing the entire texture. And since the glass is transparent, everything over-top of it automatically becomes solid. So if I try to blend or blur any design on the glass, it immediately becomes thick, blocky pixels, and anything not an entirely solid colour [such as a black that has been smudged] is removed, and I am left with a transparent pixel in that spot. Needless to say, it turned out ugly when I tried. So I aimed for a small design on the glass. Personally I feel this doesn't hinder being able to see through it [like some other packs have done]. I might end up making the design completely black. For now it's a darker brown.
I love to decorate homes with wool. I find it adds a massive decor look to a cobblestone home, or those 50 block high cobblestone towers people love to build so much. So I decided to aim for making it look more... textile, which I think shows beautifully in this.
I can thank KayneCraft for the inspiration for Sand Stone. His back has had the ONLY sandstone I ever liked in this game. I found it to be absolutely breathtaking to build with, and because of that, I aimed to make my own design.
Mossy Cobble was odd to make, and mainly due to the fact it's been 24 hours since I last woke up now, and I will still be awake for another 7-8. I went with a smooth mossy cobble, but unfortunately, it looks really bad. It ends up looking like someone just smeared paint all over it. So I ended up making it look a bit more tactile.
Netherrack was actually a great mistake. I wasn't even MAKING Netherrack. It happened whilst I was making the red wool, and I accidently over adjusted a few of the contrast and brightness sliders and it came out to this really.... evil looking block.
I tried to bring my chest and work bench design to my Wooden Door. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to turn out as well as i'd hoped. I tried adding a stylized window to it as well. Unfortunately it all seems to fall kind of flat. I'll use it as a place holder for now. But I will end up retexturing it.
Everytime I thought about making texture packs, the Book Shelf was one of the textures I first thought about, and how I would do it. Whilst it seems a bit colourful, I did really like how it turned out. Though, the wood case could probably do with being darker.
I redid my grass. And I love how it turned out. I think it goes beautifully with most, if not all the textures i'v done so far.
I'v seriously been texturing for like.. 12 hours straight, with breaks every couple hours lol. I am now super tired.
Woke up at about 2:30am since I went to bed around 5:30pm, and started texturing. I tried a few different designs with just the base redstone, and I felt this worked out to look the best, and blended the best with my pack.
Also decided to knock out the redstone torches and repeaters for the pack as well.
I feel like I sort of cheated when it comes to doing some of the textures. Anything I feel will be consistently, or often placed, next to similar textures, I try to use the same base texture for [An example being Stone and Redstone Repeater. Since I very often place repeaters on Stone, and often see friends in my worlds doing it, I just copied the texture from my Stone, over to my redstone and added the rest to it] for it then add the rest of the details. I feel so horribly cheap for it, but I feel it ends up working the best in the end anyways.
Only down to the last few textures to get done. Then I can work on releasing it, then retexturing some of the existing blocks I am not entirely happy with. Then I will move onto the items in the game :smile.gif:
Having a tonne of difficulties with the Wooden Door, Iron Door and basic plants / mushrooms. The main reason for this is the textures can't really have any depth to them, or atleast this what it's appearing to be. Doors keep turning out looking absolutely nothing like it looks like on my terrain.png file. So these will all end up probably being the very last for me to change, and may or may not look all that good.
I was enjoying some single player on this until 1.8 comes out using YogBox compilation mod [since I like having some definitive goals or things to do in a game], and it seems when I went to take some screenshots for this thread... my entire world I was using for it turned into a massive Snow Biome... which is now really annoying since the entire planet is covered in snow due to the Seasons mod. So now I got no Single Player while I work on this. :sad.gif: sadddd panda.
Leaves.. God damnit leaves.. I got NO idea what to even TRY to make for them. Definitely going last.
Rails. The problem with rails is... they immediately look flat if I try to make the textured look blurry. These will also be one of the last to be finished.
Lapis. I do not know what to even attempt for lapis... :/
Cactus is driving me nuts. Whenever I try to edit it.. it ends up having entirely transparent areas and it looks like craaaap.
No idea how to edit the last few things. Everytime I do the texture turns out really messed up and doesn't do much. However these textures are not usable in the game unless spawned through a mod or plugin.
No idea how to do water or lava animation. Let me know if you can lead me to something that shows how to do them :smile.gif:
Now that Terrain has been finished, I will be doing small tweaks here and there to it. But as of now I will be working on Items and Mobs more than anything else. :smile.gif:
I don't actually have any real "special thanks" to give out to anyone really. Just the people who've commented on my pack who think it looks good, and those who have improvement ideas to make it better. It's also great motivation to know people would actually like to see this completed, and for that I thank everyone.
The other person i'd like to thank whose helping motivate me a little bit is someone on the forums with a Let's Play series. She said she's eager to download my pack [probably lying aha], so it's also a bit of a kick to try and get the entire terrain.png completed earlier, rather than later.
looks fairly good, but the grass doesn't tile well.
Thanks. And ya it was basically my first attempt on the 32x side of things for textures. Once I get some sleep I will be going over grass and moving on to the other textures :smile.gif:
Sorry for any late replies. I am soo tired lol. 5am ><
Looks nice, but the stone slabs don't really fit in too well with the rest. It looks a little, techy, in my opinion.

I am the bone of my sword

Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything

I'll keep that in mind. I think I just didn't really blend the darker designs well enough. I'll go back to it after awhile and see if I can't touch it up so it doesn't stand out so much.
Interesting "smudgy" looking style, but grass and dirt looks like it doesn't tile well.
Ya, unfortunately the grass is a bit harder for me. Everything I try I end up not liking, since 99% of what I see in minecraft is the grass. So far this has been the best version that came out. I'll end up touching it up after awhile, but for now it's just a place holder :smile.gif:
I too like the smudgy style, and it reminds me of "Isabella" Texture pack.
Thanks. :smile.gif:. I don't know if i'v seen that pack before. Theres only a few pack names I can dedicate to memory, being Ovo's, Kaynecraft, Steelfeathers and Myocraft :smile.gif:
Updated opening post after retexturing multiple blocks :smile.gif:
Also getting more into the groove of what I would like this texture pack to look like. So soon I will be retexturing the grass so try and make it match. As of now it's not really pixelated, but more brushed. I'd like to have it match with everything else :smile.gif:
BUT adding some contrasting shadings wouldn't be wrong! (And fixing the tiling things)
Good luck!
Rarrasdas-
Thanks! And i'v been trying to work with adding a bit more contrast to the textures. But for some reason, everytime I do it turns out looking awkward, or somehow tiles REALLY badly. :sad.gif:
ALSO, don't be afraid of playing with the textures, they end up well somehow! :3
This is what I tend to do most of the time xD.
I think i'v only had an actual definitive idea for a texture so far :tongue.gif:, which was stone slabs. Everything else was either from total experimentation, or blind luck :tongue.gif:
I just looked at this, it looks good, but hen i left without commenting. I then realized I hated when people did that with my texture pack, so came back and commented :tongue.gif:. But it looks very good, I hope you keep up the good work! Kind of inspiring me too :biggrin.gif:
In regards to your newly posted texture... people arent going to flame or "go off on you", because you posted screens, properly named everything and gave us info on your pack. So we're all happy to see your progress. even if you dont have a download link, you didnt just slap some crap together and throw it in a topic behind 20 adfly links. so, thanks for making a proper topic. [which seems to be near impossible lately]
now, about your pack. :smile.gif:
people have commented on the tiling, so i wont repeat that. i like your brick, but i find the grout a little light in tonality. and i like the styling of your chest... would be nice to see that style else where. keep it up!

Ahah well thanks for commenting! Always good to know people like or what they think about my pack so far! And im glad I was able to inspire :tongue.gif:

*thumbs up*
The reason I posted not to go off, was alot of texture pack threads i'v seen that have only a couple blocks done, people have gotten kind of nasty about. Seen a few comments where people get rather rude about only having done 4-5 textures so far. I also won't be using AdFly. Personally I don't think the pack would be nearly good enough to put people through 5 seconds of hell :tongue.gif:.
And ya, my tiling issues keep popping up. I am going to be redoing my grass next I think. The problem i'm having with tiling unfortunately, is even when I fix the tiling issue, another one pops up ><. I am currently having a small problem with the sand as well. And whilst it's not as bad as the grass tiling issue, it's still noticable. :tongue.gif:
For the brick, ya I can't totally seem to get the grout to look like it has some depth to it, without making it look like I just drew a solid line for it. Same for the cobble. Whilst I feel the cobble worked out a bit better, I will need to touch up on both of them :smile.gif:
As for the chest style, I wanted to try to incorporate that into other textures that aren't as terrain heavy. Stuff lik e doors, maybe the pumpkin, and the other textures that won't be naturally generated in mass quantities. I tried a similar effect on the grass, but when you realize it's EVERYWHERE, it starts looking really bad and overdone.
I must also thank you for posting. I am a fan of your texture packs and think they are awesome. Personally, I find it hard to use your mosaic style one, but that's because my eyes hate mosaic. But I can admit, even though I can't use it, I absolutely LOVE the concept and look of it :smile.gif:.
And thanks for letting me know what you liked about it. I will definitely be trying to take into consideration what people think would look good for the pack. :smile.gif:
U have some tiling issues with the gravel and the grass other then that looks ok :smile.gif:
Tiling issues with gravel? :sad.gif:
I thought it looked pretty good to be honest. I know sand and grass have fixable issues :tongue.gif:. But now my gravel is sad :sad.gif:
Guess thats another texture to fix.
Just did another update. Not nearly as big as the previous one, but still hammered out a couple of the more common textures, such as the redstone stuff and torches.
Think i'll be taking the day off from texturing now. Haven't worked this hard on something I wasn't naturally good at, so this is definitely draining energy and taking alot out of me.
The Gold Block looks sort of.. not bright. It's dimmer look. Not entirely sure if I will keep this by the end of the pack or not. Iron Block looks pretty good, and Diamond Block may be to much of a light blue but I still like it.

Below I will be uploading close-up images of my textures. I have removed ALL outstanding screenshots [save a few] to re-upload them. This is mainly due to the main grass texture being changed and being completely different from most of my other screenshots. With each new update, I add more and more screenshots.

Currently Working On:

I'd also like to point anyone to her lets play: BlahBlahBlahGAMING
I am, however, disappointed in the severe lack of top hats.
Ahh thanks. If there was a way to create a Top Hat for armor, it'd be the first thing I worked on :smile.gif:.
Thanks! Definitely makes me wanna work even harder on it knowing people might actually wanna use it aha.
I will try! Even if the armor itself makes you look like a giant walking top hat :tongue.gif:
Ya, I gotta get that fixed ><. Gotta figure out why it turned out like that too.
Thanks. And ya it was basically my first attempt on the 32x side of things for textures. Once I get some sleep I will be going over grass and moving on to the other textures :smile.gif:
Sorry for any late replies. I am soo tired lol. 5am ><

Retired StaffI am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works
I'll keep that in mind. I think I just didn't really blend the darker designs well enough. I'll go back to it after awhile and see if I can't touch it up so it doesn't stand out so much.
Ya, unfortunately the grass is a bit harder for me. Everything I try I end up not liking, since 99% of what I see in minecraft is the grass. So far this has been the best version that came out. I'll end up touching it up after awhile, but for now it's just a place holder :smile.gif:
Thanks. :smile.gif:. I don't know if i'v seen that pack before. Theres only a few pack names I can dedicate to memory, being Ovo's, Kaynecraft, Steelfeathers and Myocraft :smile.gif:
Also getting more into the groove of what I would like this texture pack to look like. So soon I will be retexturing the grass so try and make it match. As of now it's not really pixelated, but more brushed. I'd like to have it match with everything else :smile.gif:
Thanks! And i'v been trying to work with adding a bit more contrast to the textures. But for some reason, everytime I do it turns out looking awkward, or somehow tiles REALLY badly. :sad.gif:
This is what I tend to do most of the time xD.
I think i'v only had an actual definitive idea for a texture so far :tongue.gif:, which was stone slabs. Everything else was either from total experimentation, or blind luck :tongue.gif:
now, about your pack. :smile.gif:
people have commented on the tiling, so i wont repeat that. i like your brick, but i find the grout a little light in tonality. and i like the styling of your chest... would be nice to see that style else where. keep it up!
*thumbs up*
Ahah well thanks for commenting! Always good to know people like or what they think about my pack so far! And im glad I was able to inspire :tongue.gif:
:smile.gif:
Tiling issues with gravel? :sad.gif:
I thought it looked pretty good to be honest. I know sand and grass have fixable issues :tongue.gif:. But now my gravel is sad :sad.gif:
Guess thats another texture to fix.
