For a while now I've been working, on and off, on what I intended to be an "Ultimate Default Texture Pack" for myself, something that would work as a super-sexy-looking standard texture set. The pack was to mesh well with the default pack, much in the same way the Xenocontendi pack does, deviating little yet enhancing the basic look of everything.
I've always been wary of committing myself to a texture pack outside of the default, for when using such a pack and observing someone else's creations, I would not be seeing the same thing they are seeing. Xenocontendi satisfied this problem to a degree, yet still never struck me as reaching the ultimate potential for detail and lush-ness. Xeno balances everything perfectly, yet doesn't quite supply the eye candy quality I've been looking for.
The set needs to operate twofold: To function as a somewhat real and living environment with detailed and lush grass and trees and earth, while also offering itself to the player as a set of visually balanced creative options, like swatches of a paint set, each block and color potentially working together to offer optimum creative satisfaction.
Anyone is welcome to contribute, and those that do will have their names added to the list of developers. The texture selections will be chosen based on how well they work with one another, and how well they work for the overarching goal of the project.
What exists thus far is a rather super-rough work in progress. The main textures that have been worked on so far, which I am fairly happy with, are the basics: Grass, Long Grass, Dirt, Sand, Sandstone, Logs, Cacti, Stone and Stone Half Steps. Many of these still need some work, and anyone who thinks they can improve them is welcome to tinkering with them and posting their changes. I hope you guys like what I've done so far, and I hope you'll work with me in developing this into the Ultimate Default Texture Pack, to trump all!
I will update this file as each inkling of progress is made, and I can't wait to see how this evolves! :smile.gif:
A lot of it still needs to be balanced out. One thing I want is for the stone and stone half steps to be about the same shade. It always struck me as kind of stupid for the stone half steps to be white while the stone was grey.

Okay, so I've been messing around with the stone half steps, and I basically just stole Korthos' ornate version from Darkening just to see how it looks. Also been messing around with dirt and grass.
