Hello everyone,
I want to make a new texture pack on my own, not just mixing a bunch of great textures to make a remix pack, and i want suggestions, also, i thought i could make this topic a community-based, so all the texture packs artists will give ideas here, I will edit them as a quote and new artists will learn from those tips as much as I will.
I want to make a smooth pack, that with it, you can recognize all the blocks easily, but yet, it will not be too similar to the default texture.
A big thanks to degraph for this helping tutorials:
Tiling Tutorial:
Here's a super fast tiling method for making perfect tiling textures. Tiling Tutorial. This is key to not wasting countless hours trying to line up all your graphics and lines. Trust me on this one.
Dirt/ Stone Texturing:
Here's a Texturing/ tiling Tutorial I did for a friend. It explains how to do the dirt texture, but can also be applied to making/ texturing stone or any repeating texture.
Texturing/ Shading Items:
Here's a step by step Item Tutorial I did on shading/ texturing items.
Well, do you have in mind the type of pack you would like to create? I mean as far as theme or feel or style goes. Your enthusiasm is much appreciated, but we of the 'community' kinda need a starting point. If you decide on where you would like to begin, you will find a wealth of knowledge for that particular area.

Hmm, maybe I know what you mean....something like this?
Not my forte, but I would think that in such a case, consistency in colors/shading is absolutely key, and making sure the pack is smooth without being 'simplified' [ie, first time noob 8bit scribbles]. Finding the right level of detail is necessary, you don't want to cross the border into realistic. Hope you can find someone more experienced on the subject to help you out...

I really like your advices.
It's looks really nice, i think ill go to that way, in the border of 64x64.
thanks! :smile.gif:
If its going to be your first texture pack, I personally recommend doing 32x. 64 can get a bit overbearing for a first (it did for me). Like paragon said above, if you want to do smooth, all the time isnt spent in drawing as its mainly spent in color, tonality and LOTS of subtleties. i think thats why there tends to be a flood of "simple packs" that absolutely blow. because the misconception is that simple is easy, when in fact, subtle is quite hard.
Im all for a good simple pack though! so by all means, do it up! take your time with it. personally, id like to see a nice simple pack that has faint outlines around each box... to kind of enforce that "simple block" look.

I really hate simple packs, cause those are people that don't have time to make a real, nice looking pack, but still want to do something, so if im going for the project, ill make it a bit more dokuish, realistic something, like alot of my favorite packs are.

Every other artist that come and visit here, can you please post some helpful tips and tricks, so new artists will read it?
We'd love to help ya, but what exactly do you need help with? cheers
Anything assosiated with texture making, from making the stone textures to reskin the mobs, I want to make a topic where every new artist can learn the very basics of making a texture pack. Not just for myself.
