Hey guys so I would like some feedback on the progress I have made so far on my hand drawn 256x texture pack. it is very slow progress and I will not have access to the colors I am using right now when my sister leaves for college on Wednesday. So guys, I need to know, would it be worth going out and buying my own colored pencils to finish this pack? It would be like $80 to get the pack I want (she has the $150 one!), so its a huge investment. I need your feedback, keep going or is it not that good?
Also, what should I name it and any suggestions for textures? AND I know i messed up the cobblestone in the bottom right I will fix that in photoshop later.
EDIT Let me make a few clarifications. This is a scribble style pack, hence the scribble look. This is by no means a Semi-realistic or whatever pack. Ok next I do have a scanner, but it is hooked up to my moms computer at the moment and it takes FOREVER to move it or scan on hers and transfer to mine, so I took pictures of it because i can just hook the camera up to my comp directly. Also I am going to do the finishing touches in Photoshop, like the cobblestone mess up.
Lapis and Redstone
Gold and Coal
Diamond and Iron
Cobblestone and Wood Planks
Bricks and Mossy Cobble
Grass top and Stone
Dirt and Dirt w/ Grass

Current Alpha Release Version 0.0.2
Update Log:
0.0.1: First Upload. 16 Total Textures
0.0.2: Added lapis, diamond, gold, and iron blocks. Also added Netherrack, glowstone, soulsand, and obsidian
Besides, why did you take a picture of it? Why not just scan it? If you don't have a scanner, how are you going to make the texture pack anyway?
This is going to sound harsh, but:
It looks pretty bad, like a 12 year old drew it. That style can be done well, unfortunately you have not yet accomplished that (doesn't mean you can't keep trying if you chose to). Besides, I think even at 256x256 the hand-drawn part will not translate well to a digital format. Definitely do not spend any money on it.

thanks for the honesty bro, but you do realize this is a "Scribble style" texture pack? this is by absolutely no means a semi-realistic pack or anything of the sorts. it is good that it looks like a 12 year old drew it, especially as MC is aimed at 12 year olds. Also i have a scanner i obviously thought that one out bro. but thanks for the feedback anyway.

Oh man it's been about 3 centuries since I played this game :|
Continue the pack (I'd like to see what non digital textures look like reproduced in game), but do NOT waste that much money on a pack of colored pencils at this point in time.
I don't want to be harsh, but you do not yet have the skills to make use of high quality pencils. It would be a waste of money - expensive pencils won't magically make your art better.
Just pick up a cheap pack for now ($5-$10). You don't even need a huge variety of colors as a smaller color palette will force you to learn how to adjust/mix colors by layering strokes. Practice shading with different pencil strokes and pressures, learn how to build up color and darkness instead of just pressing hard, and try to make use of the background for highlights instead of disregarding it entirely in your composition (generally, lightly colored pencils are great for highlights on colored paper - not over dark pencil strokes).
THEN move on to a more professional quality pencil type.

Ok well I already have a set of like 15 colors I had for art class last year, I like your suggestions and I think I have to agree on the not spending money on new pencils. And I do layer at least 2-3 layers per color section. For instance my stone is actually 4 colors but just layered well.

I have decided to make a preliminary release with the textures I have currently, just to make sure it will work and all that jazz. Also I'm curious to see what it will be like.

I personally think the iron and diamond should be a bit easier to see, and the outlines of the brick more defined--stand out a bit more against the colour--but I personally like seeing hand-drawn texture packs and I'd like to see how it turns out. I agree with the others, don't spend too much money making this, but for fun sure and I'm sure there will be others like myself waiting to see how it looks afterwards. Good luck. c:

Ok thanks for the feed back. I will keep going I guess...

i really like it and in my opinion from this angle the dirt and bricks seem to work very nice if you continue i'm sure i would love this texture pack along with many others.
EDIT: a+ ores, cobble and a few others that i couldn't really tell what they were, but they looked good

I understand its a "scribble style" pack, I think that is quite clear. I'm just saying even though it's that style, it shouldn't look like it literally was just scribbled. There's a difference between actually scribbling it and abstracting the essence of scribble such that it evokes that feel, yet is actually quite painstakingly well done.
You don't want it to look like a 12 year old actually drew it, you want it to look like a professional wanted it to look like a 12 year old drew it. There's a fine line and I think you're a bit off from it as it stands now.
Not to mention you have to consider how they will look next to each other, as well as in repetition. Is a 40x40 area of the smooth stone going to look good? Right now I'd say it'd hurt your eyes.

They all tile fine except the bricks and wood planks and that is because I scanned them at an angle. Also I honestly have no clue what you are talking about I'm starting to think you are spouting rubbish dude. I'm no art major I'm just a kid trying to have some fun instead of sit on the computer, dont take this the wrong way but your criticism is worthless if I dont get it. If you are such a magician I would like to see your hand drawn pack, perhaps I could gain inspiration from it or understand what you mean in a visual way. Honestly.

This is amazing! Nice Job! Oh, and a little suggestion. Make the Stone a bit darker. Otherwise great Texture Pack.I'm gonna download it when it's Finished.
