I am preparing to do some techno-wizardry, and I have a question about texture packs. I know there is no absolute answer to this because texture pack artists can do whatever they want, but
in general, are ore textures the pack's stone texture with the ore added?
If you look at the base texture in the game, the ores are stone with extra drawn over it to show the ores. Is that generally the case in texture packs?

yes, usually the texturemen when making ores add the "ore" to the rock texture.
In my experience yes they usuaully are, but they don't just look like a texture pasted on top, they add depth with shadows and all that fancy stuff.
Agreed. They should tile well with all the other stone blocks as if they were stone, but the ores should appear to have depth within the block (as was stated by Santairo).
