As the description says, I hate doing the 'natural' textures (smoothstone, grass, dirt, sand, etc etc) and I highly prefer manmade because they're not very recurring and look fine with patterns and such.
Getting to the point, I attempted to make smoothstone which seemed a bit better than the black-as-hellno racism here old smoothstone.
OLD STONE
NEW STONE
Which looks better?
I would also appreciate any tips/tutorials on doing these types of blocks. Thanks in advance!

New one = better
Use old texture for obsidian or something

"You must find us another shrubbery! And place it next to this one, but a bit higher so you get a two-level effect, with a little path running down the middle. And then! When you have found the shrubbery! You must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest... With! A HERRING!!!"
New one is better for one reason in my mind. In they caves, no torches, you still have some visibility. With the black all you can see is the enemies. And one more thing, how would you texture coal with the old one?

We made the coal a blood-reddish color.
Anywho, I lowered the contrast and improved the (uh..tiling?) of both the stone and cobblestone, how's it look?
