It appears that you're arguing against licensing your artwork, and providing proof that the work is yours (dated .psd files & thread dates). The first is just silly - content creators for every other game abide by licensing rules because they understand the benefits that come with them. They also accept the burden of proof (which, by the way, is something that must be provided by someone making a claim in court, too. I'm sure you knew that, though. :smile.gif:) You'll find that "proof" need only be convincing, and not concrete. Many things can work in your favor here, not the least of which being the aforementioned .psd files as well as postdates. Also, if a texture "happens" to be identical, less a few pixels, you will be able to (successfully) claim theft.
All that said, I would certainly support you if you were more inclined to create a board of texture artists (a jury, if you will), to judge these cases of stolen content. It would also be nice if there were a feature (more streamlined than PMs) to report threads to users. This would allow, say, me, to tell Glimmar when someone's ripping off of him. It would also be nice to see the threads of the accused be closed temporarily (though this could lead to a form of DDOS).
It certainly would be nice to see some artists moderating this section.
TL;DR: If you remain organized, you'll see that the new system will allow you to police your art much better than you can now. Mandatory licenses give you legal power to keep your work private.
I love this. The staff can make this ******** policy, but they can't do ANYTHING else to clean up the forum. It's a ****ing game, do you really expect people to go through the length of getting proper copyrights for texture packs and mods they make for fun?!
This forum has gone to hell, and it's just getting worse.

Makers of games license their work because there is money involved, and having a license stream-lines the process when they sue for copyright infringement. But your work is protected REGARDLESS of whether you post a license. It's yours simply because you made it. We shouldn't constantly have to be on the look out for thieves, or be pulled away from our vacations to deal with the theives ourselves.
Since when does the victim have to be the enforcer?
I have the copyrights for every individual texture I've ever created, and have logs and documentation to prove it. So if anyone steals my stuff, I at least have some legal protection.
I recommend any texture artists to do the following when saving their image files:
1. Save in multiple places.
2. Save your artist info in a read-only section of the image file.
This will make sure that you have timestamped proof of ownership
Well what other people do is their choice, but any serious artists will get his work properly licensed, even if it's for fun. :smile.gif:
I agree, and had been meaning to show proof of licence for my pack as well. (technically it is licenced I just didn't have a nice sticker).
My problem...OUR problem is that it is now required on this forum and for those who won't be able to get the licence up in two week. Too bad. Good bye thread. Another problem is that this thread has a medium by which copyright infringements are enforced. They are called mods. With the new ruled the texture pack and mod creator are now the mods. Yes, in a court of law the burden of proof is on the accuser but the burden of policing is not. With these new rules they are.

Just to let you all know, this thread has been brought to the moderators' attention, though it seems that currently, none of the moderators for the custom content sections are on.
You guys seem pretty under-staffed.

I have updated my thread with the new post. You can see it here. As you may notice it still meets all the requirement for a texture pack thread and thus will stay here and draw attention to the issue.

I am new here.. I will start off by saying that.. however after reading this thread and reading the new rules that have been put into place.. I find the new rules to be utterly ridiculous personally. A MUCH easier solution would have been to modify the submission thread format to include a section called 'Authorized Re-posters' (or something to that effect), the original author would then list everyone with permission to edit/re-post the pack under that section. If you aren't in that section and you re-post the pack.. Moderators would easily be able to verify that the re-poster was NOT approved.
Again, I'm new here and I am still learning what the proper way of handling things on here is, but from past experience with content submission systems like this, its much easier to treat re-posts and 'Guilty until proven innocent' then it is to add on some elaborate and time-wasting system such as what was implemented now.
To all moderators, sectional moderators, administrators and staff:
Deleting the texture packs of those who protest for new rules will not stop people from protesting. It will only cause people to leave this forum in droves.
You are not helping yourselves or us by aliening the users of this forum. We are your life blood-- if we leave, this forum will be no more.
We should work together--mods and users alike-- to come to a solution.
EDIT: I apologize. It was not a texture pack that was deleted, but a mock Aether thread.

Well, if they are being that stubborn about it then I guess they are going to loose a lot of people. That is stupid.
