I'm not sure I understand though. Could someone explain everything to me again xD?
According to the new rule we have to post proof of copyright info on our thread or they will be removed from the forums. If there is a thread that is infringing on our copyright WE have to report THEM and by we I mean the texture pack creator. If someone were to see that another person is using Steelfeathers work and tried to report them to a mod the mod won't do anything. It has to be Steelfeathers who does the reporting and not only that she has to be able to PROVE that the work was stolen.

Okay, this thread is starting to go in the wrong direction. I'm going to head this off at the pass before it gets out of hand.
We should not be slamming the mods. That's not the point, and it will only get the thread locked. We need to slam the rules-- show our displeasure with them and our united goal of changing them.
I think the rules would be better if they were more like this:
Any original work placed on the site is automatically the property of the creator.
Any work found to be taken from another's without permission should be reported, along with a link to the original thread and, if possible, a list of the textures/pieces that have been copied/modified.
Permission should be clearly shown on the first post of a derivative work if it has been given. This should show a screenshot of a private message or similar proof that the original creator has given permission.
If permission is not clearly visible on this first post, it will be assumed to have not been given, and the thread will be locked pending proof of permission.
This is pretty much the same as it was before, except more clearly worded.
Yes, this ^^
I am beginning to think that this ruling came out of the "solution to remix packs" thread. Which is even more frustrating because this was NOT the solution that was voted on by the community.

Lets make something clear here. It's not the mods that change the rules. The mods simply enforce them. They are like police, but they don't get to decide what the rules are. The admins decided on what the rules should be, and, in my, and I suspect many of your, opinion, they have made a major cock-up with this rule change.
But, as I like to say, it's all very well complaining, but you won't do any good unless you can suggest a better alternative.
Luckily for me, I have already suggested my alternative.
Also, these new rules do not just affect Texture Packs. They also apply to mods and any other content posted on the site. These rules need changing now, before they do any damage.
Why I have this at the bottom of my texture pack's page:
This texture pack(henceforth "Textures" or "The texture pack"), by the terms of http://www.minecraft.net/copyright.jsp is sole property of the Mod author (The Fiftyniner, henceforth "Owner" or "The Owner") or other authors by which material is being used with consent. By default it may only be distributed on minecraftforums.net, or other site The Owner personally posts it on. It may only be mirrored, re-posted,or have parts of it used in other Mods with advance written permission of the Owner. Electronic Mail is fine if you wait for a response. URL shorteners or other attempts to make money off The Owner's Mod are strictly forbidden without advance written permission.

Yes, I can just imagine it. Someone snatching up dokucraft and copyrighting it because doku has stopped supporting it and since he is away he probably won't post a copyright thing on his pack so it will be removed. Now the new person has complete control of something he never made.

Well I'm really thinking of pulling all my stuff out of here and quitting altogether.
Since this forum has fallen into the hands of Curse, it all went downhill!
Yeah I may as well go back to endless hours of mining stone in multiplayer since no one good will be left to talk to.

That's not the only problem-- I'm going on vacation in two days. What if someone steals some of my textures while I'm gone, and by the time I report them when I get back they've already become popular/made money off MY artwork?
And what about people who have other pressing issues going on in their lives, like sickness or work? Even if their stuff has a glaring red 'do not use' warning at the top, under these new rules they could come back months later to find that their textures have been whored out everywhere and no one believes them when they say they created the original artwork.
Now I totally agree that these new policies aren't quite fair and good.
But people, is it the fault of the moderator? I think not. They don't make rules, Admins (and maybe the people from Curse) do. And will it really be effective to use rude behavior and blame the mods/admins for 'being lazy' and 'smoking pot'? No, think futher. One of them might have come up with this idea, and may have overseen this problem.
Swearing, rude behavior and accusing people who have more power around here then you won't solve anything or work out good. Come up with good arguments and gather as much people as possible to vote against these rules. THAT's how you can win.
Anyway, I disagree with these rules too. Hopefully something can be achieved.

I was wondering when you would make it over here. :biggrin.gif:
My bro and I are considering opening up the website we are developing for other people to post their work. Originally it was just going to be our stuff, but because of this...
If they don't change these rules they are going to loose A LOT of good people.

So I can't accuse admins of doing something wrong when they obviously did?
Also your avatar makes you an obvioustroll.

Wow, that's annoying. I seriously hope they change the rules, since I've already started working on a texture pack, and have ideas for a couple more. Now what is all this legal jargon? From what I understood it seems I'll need a license, otherwise someone else could steal my idea, and if they license it before I do, I'm screwed. Great, because making the texture pack and reskinning water wasn't hard enough. :dry.gif: 22 votes in an hour? Yeah, they're definitely going to need to change the rules if they don't want a riot on their hands.

Now now let's be fair, his post is perfectly reasonable even if his avatar contains a meme. He's just simply stating that it's fine to disagree with the rules and mods/admins, but insulting them is a no-go. Then again, the mod team could be more effective in this section, so I can understand where you're going. :smile.gif:
In all fairness, the moderation team here is hardly the best I've encountered, and that seems to be the general view. Whether this is down to incompetence, laziness or simply understaffing I don't know.
Understaffing, I think. They do a good job when they're here, but they can't be here all the time.
Everyone seems to have missed my note on not bashing the mods, lol. But I'm glad someone else said it too.

Actually, he was simply saying that attacking the moderators is a stupid thing to do, since they didn't come up with this idea.
