That's fine. Just be wary of loopholes. "Creations" for example, could be twisted to mean "map collection", and people would be allowed to grab your map and use it in their compilations as long as they gave you credit.
If anyone is wondering which admin made the rules about this the guy's name is BlueSteelAU and he's been admin for about...a week I think?
What would that matter to you? He acts and speaks on behalf of those who appointed him admin. He's also been here a lot longer than you I suspect. And your "concern" is over whether or not you can abuse Painterly some more?
<--sorry...grumpy long day behind me. This kind of stuff gets me.

Maybe we should have an entire section or plain rule explanation somewhere here on the forums explaining what a license is, how someone words it, how many pages of legaleze they want to include (your topic on loopholes reminds me of legislation.. "SUBSECTION A "CREATIONS" Creations are to be defined as.."
We need to keep it simple, keep it easy, heck.. even find a way to implement it AUTOMATICALLY like youtube does.

There is a stickied topic in the Released Mods section with some licenses in (one of which is the one I based my licenses on).
I also have a link to a thread that aageon wrote on this topic in the Texture Pack University and I plan on writing a tutorial my self which would include examples of copyrights and terms of use from existing packs.

Also according to the Brene Convention, World Intellectual Property Organization Copyright Treaty, and Digital Millennium Copyright Act your work is already protected and you should not have to provided a lisence on your pack.
I agree 100%.
Licenses are a good idea, but this requirement is a knee-jerk reaction that is little more than a band-aid to the real issues. Chances are Curse's lawyer, who is probably not even an entertainment attorney, suggested it.
He talks about these principles of US law, but is ignorant to the fact that the simple act of publication provides a copyright under US law.
Whatever. I can only be thankful that this is not an "official" forum - merely the most popular one.
Thanks for nothing, Curse.

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
On your thread just type... "All the content in this pack is the property of [state name]. By downloading and using this pack you agree that it is for personally use only and accept that redistributing parts or all of the pack is not allowed unless permission is given from [state name]. [date & time]"
Also include the same message in a .txt file in the zip/rar. The .txt will have a date created that wont change. :wink.gif: This might help ease a few issues.
THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. STOP POSTING HERE.

Well, then perhaps they need to update the official announcement - because I'll be damned if I'm going to scour through 26 pages of this just because I was away for a few days.
Since it wasn't recapped in the first post here, what did you expect?

steelfeathers is away and cannot recap it in the first post at the moment. It is a simple as this though. Grab a license, write a license, copy a license and post it on your pack. If you are using other people work, make sure you have a copy of the permission or their 'open' license if it is to show that your allowed to use it.
If either of these things are too hard, then ask someone who has one in their pack to help you out. This WILL be a good change for the forums and will make it easier for the mods to do their jobs rather than chasing people round all the time.
I am open to say people can approach me if they want something explained, could we make a list of how is happy to answer questions in this post perhaps, so this thread can die and people can stop misinterpreting things?

See, if someone's brief absence keeps them from updating this OP, what's it going to be like when an artist has a more prolonged absence - for issues like a family health crisis - and cannot be present to lodge a complaint when their work is stolen? I personally know of at least two artists who are facing this kind of situation, and I remain unconvinced that this change is for the "protection" of anyone but Curse.

They request "proxies" to watch over them when they are gone. One of those (I assume) that you speak of has me as a proxy right now. We can act on their behalf for reporting issues and such.
