we will try to protect them. by getting in contact with the authors. if we can't then a lot of the old texturepacks / mods from earlier version will be removed.(archived), they will be handled the same way as if they weren't on this site.. eg: the painterly pack. where someone (preferably the one stating the artwork is stolen) tries to contact original author. If they can't then we'll try. if no one can then both packs may be removed if they don't have valid licences stating where their content comes from. and the rights to use..
like i said before even mojang could come up at any time and say a lot of the texture packs violate their copyright and then we';d have to look at each and every one with both authors and see what can be done, deleting those that mojang proves are in violation , same goes for any pack.. we need to have positive proof that it is their artwork and that the original author wants the other gone. OR WE could be held liable if we delete it without proof. and the way things have been going lately with some authors now citing one part of an image as theirs (eg: a boat , monster, weapon etc) as theirs and proving it then we have to delete the infringing pack. then whats been happening is that the original author has talked to the new content creator and agreed to let them use it. so then we have to go in and restore that thread. we'd rather get all that sorted out prior to doing anything. and the way to do that is the clear use of licences etc. by both or multi parties
Well, at least to me your dedication was worth something. About four hours ago I was an inch away from taking down my packs and leaving this forum. And now, obviously, I'm not. :smile.gif:
whats been happening is that the original author has talked to the new content creator and agreed to let them use it. so then we have to go in and restore that thread.
I still don't see why we can't just have a requirement that any permissions be visible on the thread. In that case, the rules of permission are broken if they don't display the permission, regardless of whether or not they have it, and the thread can be locked until they display said permission.
The administration is just trying to have it so we, the artists who make these things for this game, state how we want them used by the public at large.
Examples - One of those lengthy giberish looking legal letters or something as simple as -
"I, as the original creator, release these works as free to use and redestribute."
"I release this pack(s) only to be downloaded from these links I post and to {yada yada} whom I given permission."
-This one I think it would be best to have links going back and forth between the two people as someone earlier stated
"I state herein that this pack may not be redestributed at all and only found on this thread."
-This states clearly for the admin that no one can use the pack's resources at all.
And if someone is using another person's work, they should state it as well.
"I release this pack as my own except the following... [Insert source here]"
Or for the case of remixes that the poster has no ownership they just state the pack's origins to individuals.
I think that it's just an issue with the wording coming from the administration that is getting crossed (hopefully this is getting cleared up by this conversation).

Speaking of this, I also don't see why listing those who you have given permission, and have them list you on their page is such an issue. If both pages have a list, it should be far easier to trace back content, especially if whichever textures/pieces were used are included in said lists.
moderate: kept or keeping within reasonable or proper limits; not extreme, excessive, or intense
They aren't police, and those who think they are, shouldn't. They lock threads that get heated, block people who troll and delete or move topics which are irrelevant. And that's the way it should be. There is, at this time, no internet claims court. If there were this would be a simple thing to resolve. I empathize, but please don't put the burden where it doesn't belong.
so what exacly do i have to do now to protect my pack?
this is just an example using whats on your page already expanding it.

-supports CTM (Connecting Texture Mod) if you've included any of their artwork you need to list it here and link to where they say you can use it
-Possibly compatible with the shader mod in the future
Credits:
-Some Mobs you need to list all the mobs from their content that are in use on yours [Misa] insert a link to their page which states the licence or permission for you to use them
-Everything else [CrEaTiVe_ONE/Holidaybunny]
Licence: (You can choose from any one of these or come up with your own or use one from the creativecommons or anywhere else really or combine them to make it as you'd like your licence permissions to be)
(thinking that you don't want to use any of your content)
ALL content from CrEaTiVe_ONE and HolidayBunny are not allowed to be used in others content packs
(thinking that you want to allow previews and reviews of your content pack , ie: screen shots or Videos etc)
ALL content from CrEaTiVe_ONE and HolidayBunny are only allowed to be used in others in Videos , screenshots
(thinking that you want to allow only certain previews and reviews of your content pack ,that have asked your permission ie: screen shots or Videos etc)
ALL content from CrEaTiVe_ONE and HolidayBunny are only allowed to be used in others in Videos , screenshots upon asking and getting permission
(thinking that you want to allow only certain people who have asked for permission from you for use in their packs)
ALL content from CrEaTiVe_ONE and HolidayBunny are only allowed to be used in others in packs upon asking and getting permission
(and optionally as some members suggested give a list of those that have obtained permission and links to their pages)
Then anyone using your content has to list any of your content and link back here stating that they have your permission and or giving you credit for the content of yours (not that of Misa's pack.. that they have to get from Misa just like you did, and display it the same as you did)
If they don't do this and someone reports it to you preferably (or us and we contact you) you contact us back stating that they have used your stuff (specifically which items) in their pack , video , review that's displayed , promoted on this site.(Naturally we can't do anything if they aren't doing it here.. if it is elsewhere then you need to talk to the other site.. eg: you tube would be your best bet if it's on multiple sites areas but hosted at youtube)
Because you have permission from Misa (that is if you really have), they'll have a similar link on their site stating their licence and optionally listing you as a valid user for those items and a link to your pack
PS: I hope this is readable as its hard to see and geta feel for what I've written in here prior to posting it
note : that optionally may be added to the rules .. it seems like a good idea
If a texture pack is reported by a third party to the moderation team, they will attempt to contact the creator of the texture pack. If they can get into contact, and the creator confirms stolen content, then the content will be removed. If they cannot get into contact with the creator, I'm unclear as to what will happen. May this be cleared up, since this appears to be everyone's biggest issue with the new rules? Also, if anything else I said was wrong, please correct me.
So will my pack be under the WTFPL license if I put a sentence on my thread saying so?
And if it is under the WTFPL license, what would happen if someone copied my texture pack, put it under a different license, and then claimed mind as a copy?
