we are recruiting more mods all the time , the forum staff has just undergone (well undergoing) a major upgrade , we are adding new moderators and training them all this takes time.
but we also are revising the rules as well to make everyone's experience here more enjoyable ( including ours )
The mapping and Modding section will be undergoing a lot of changes very soon, and that to will hopefully increase the experience here for all. old areas are being revamped / re-organised , new areas are being added. we are hoping to have all this in place prior to the release of MC1.8 so that members will be able to familiarise themselves with the new structure
these rule updates are a part of this update to this section (as well as the new general posting rules yet to be posted)
Other areas may follow but Mapping and Modding being the largest is being done first (with a plan that has been developed by many members and content authors input. not just ours). no one likes change and believe me if these changes weren't necessary they wouldn't be being done
I like change!

My homemade license for my language pack:Your not allow to publish my work in public. Then you must have permission from me,and give me the credit. This lang.pack is not allowed to post anywhere else without my permission. This is all orginally Oys' work.
eventually when all the content authors are doing all this then yes, we might be able to take 3rd parties reports as gospel . but until then we can't. at the moment things are that haphazard all over the place that no one knows exactly who's artwork is in whose packs and this is a nightmare for new content authors thinking that they have permission to use certain content when they really don't. because the content they are using doesn't spell out who's content is who's many can be traced back to the original contentpacks that aren't even around anymore, even though its stated that it can be used by others as their content when it isn't at all..

Thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us. We greatly appreciate the clarification.
you're welcome that's why I'm here. I don't hold others views against them, nor their comments if they are constructive. I knew that there would be a lot of explaining and sorting out , smoothing of ruffled feathers so to speak.
I'm glad we are able to talk about things as I'm really committed (yeah yeah.. I know some of you think I should be committed) to the betterment of this OUR community, otherwise i wouldn't be going through all this. I'd just be a member like the 600,000+ other members here.

Not start some big hoop-la again, but I think it would really help if you took on some of the people who applied to be mods. If the problem is that it takes a lot of effort to sort through the various permissions... well then, it makes sense to spread the workload, doesn't it? :smile.gif:
Although I AM looking forward to the time you mentioned when 3rd parties can step in again to stop pirating.
I think the biggest problem with the mod applications is the they might be asking a bit much. I am in contact with an individual who was just offered a position as a mod on this forum and he is intimidated because they want him to spend 40+ a week on the forums. I have no idea how other forums do it but that seems a bit much for something that is volunteer work. Maybe once they get more mods they can lower the expectation.

This whole thing, dummied down, and made to be understandable:
What we're asking is that you make a small paragraph telling others how you would like your stuff to be given out to the public. This is to protect your stuff, so others can't steal it, and call it their own. Or 'plagiarize' it.
We do this because we care about the original artists who work hard on their projects. We don't want their work to be copied without permission. This licensing thing is done because we, and everyone else, wants it to be clear on what you can do with someone's stuff, and what you can't do.
About 3d party reports. Right now, this place is such as mess, sometimes it's like trying to find a sheet of paper in a truck filled with sheets of paper. Don't worry, we're in the process of cleaning up, but tracing stuff to the original maker can be time consuming, and end up a wild goose chase.
I've hired 3 new mods and am currently training them.. it takes a lot of time for them to become familiar with moderating their forums , eventually I'll have about 50 mods, but also good moderators are hard to find , those without warnings , conflicting interests , time to spend moderating , in different time zones, those that you can trust
after training these 3 then I'll hire more and they and I can train those new ones and so on

Makes sense
Trustworthy people are definitely difficult to find these days

Not from me they didn't , I've never said any such thing to anyone. everyone is weighed up by their own merits , by the individual Forum admins, don't forget that they have to feel comfortable with who they hire too.. not bashing heads all the time.
with that being said there's no way I'm going to hire 168 moderators who can only work 1 hour a day per week. there has to be a balance, also quality , and amount of work being done has to come into it too

Thanks for smoothing things out bluesteel. I am sure this system will work better, its just change and the wording that is hard to look by. I am keen to see our work protected, but It was more the artist like johnsmith that dont have time to be here like me and feathers do. As I am sure you have your ideas sorted for all that I won't question you. If you are willing to work for a better community and for the good of the forums (as it sounds like you are) then I am willing to work with you. As I think we all should people.
Thing to remember is the Rules are a living document and will change as needed. they aren't set in stone forever.
thanks for the vote of confidence, I'm sure the Site Admins feel the same way or they wouldn't have promoted me.
I spend up to 18+ hours a day here working away here for nothing except the few praises i get and the satisfaction that I'm hopefully making a difference for the better. ( I could be just playing minecraft and making videos , and not caring about what happens here but that's not me. I'm here trying to help, the day that I see that what I'm doing isn't making a difference is the day I'll stop. as I have better things to do than waste my time and effort. Yes this job is stressful but also so satisfying at the moment

People should be able to just state in their liscence that they allow people other than themselves to report stolen textures.. Thats the one thing I don't like, the fact that you're assuming that everyone will just be around or have time to file complaints of stolen textures. I dont understand your logic when you're saying that if person B has textures from person A and doesnt have written permission from person A then person C cant report person B by just showing the original thread of person A and the stolen textures in person B's thread to a mod.
What happens if the original author doesnt have a liscence? JohnSmith for example hasnt been around for a few weeks and you're now saying that if someone takes his textures you wont do anything about it because JohnSmith doesnt have a liscence nor is he there to actually report it to a mod. There's a shitload of older, outdated textures which wont be updated with a liscence and the author of which wont be around to report stole textures, so anyone can just take those textures.
