I'm done protesting for today. I've been doing so for almost 3 hours, and in that time we have had very little input from any mods or admins. It would be nice to hear the other side of the story, so that we can actually come to a consensus, instead of simply screaming out displeasure.
I'll join in again tomorrow, likely as not, unless said consensus has been reached by then.
I'm sure they are choosing their words quite carefully now. I too am awaiting a decent response from the mod/admin community.
The more I think about it, the more I think the idea I came up with (I think someone else came up with it about the same time) is a better solution to the problems being addressed by the recent policy change. Try adding this to the rules:
If you give permission to another person to use your content, you are required to put that permission in the same post as the content being shared. Otherwise the moderators will assume the content is stolen.

yup
I actually posted the same thing before you did but it got consumed by the sea of protest
I don't mind the mods/admins not posting. I assume they are extremely busy right now. I also assume that mods/admins are reading this and sharing what they read with the others to reach the best solution in their opinions.
Everyone who is saying there won't be a policy change is wrong. We have gotten enough attention that the people in charge have realized something needs to be done. Right now, they're trying to decide what needs to be done.

I am speaking with the admins behind the scenes. As well, BlueSteelAU is asleep right now since it is still early morning in Australia.
It's hard to deny something is happening when a thread like this comes up. Maybe they're revising their rules. Maybe they're trying to counter and say why they did x. In any case, something is going to happen, and it likely is.
I would like to request that the more senior members present who can afford the commitment of time and energy apply to be moderators. Part of why the mods are flooded is that there aren't enough of them. If a more robust, better-staffed moderator team was in place, a better policy that more reflected the views of the community would have been created. If you haven't been here long, like me, or are too busy, like most of us, no need to apply (i.e. please don't).

Not only does it not matter who said it first, knowing that several people came up with the same idea independently is a good thing! That shows there's popular support for the idea, and therefore it's an idea moderators will consider more strongly.

Quite frankly, I don't even know if I would even go half as far as this measure
to stop the excessive amounts of remixing packs, and stealing work. There
is no need to burden texture artists through requiring a written and legal
copyright on their textures.
With that said the texture artists that do and have acquired said copyrights are
going to be the ones in a safe place with their packs.
Multiple top artists at this point have discontinued their packs "until further notice"
and it seems like some of you are considering leaving the forum. No offense
to those considering such actions, but, it seems like with the outstanding
demand to abolish the soon-to-be instituted rules, that won't be necessary.
It's not a moderator's problem to make the decision to do this. Copyrighting is
a right accessible to all individuals, but by all means NOT necessary. All we
honestly need is more moderators, which isn't that difficult. Various people
have put into be a part of said position, and not all have received responses.
If an individual notices someone's work being misused, without acknowledgement
of such use, all one has to do is acknowledge a moderator and the original author
of the stealing of creative property. This is a forum for a freaking online, virtual
building game, one in which we all seem to enjoy as much as to create alternative texture
packs for it.
It's not necessary to bring in such risky and unreliable political ideas into
the texturing and modding forums. It's just not necessary, if someone has
a problem they can deal with it themselves or ask a moderator to do it. It's these people
who were given their position to moderate, not ultimately restrict, but moderate.

I was trying to remember who it was. I saw your post after I wrote mine.
Very understandable and respectful. Thank you for posting some insight on what's going on. =)

Thank you for taking the time to let us know. It is greatly appreciated.
Apply here:

(This is me doing my part to apply a curative in addition to a palliative solution.)
I said the same thing here:

Back on Page 8, its something that should be considered.

Retired StaffWell, I may not have been the first one, but I know I said it at least three times, haha.
Guys, it really doesn't matter who said it first. They might not go for it anyway.

Retired StaffThis issue hasn't gone away, we're just in a holding pattern right now waiting for the admins to respond. :smile.gif:
