In gaming you toss out that sort of logic, even if making "realistic" graphics. No one thinks of diamonds as yellow gems, and to see one in a game would just add confusion. You have a point to a degree, but you also have to understand that making graphics easy to understand are a priority.
Yeah, I guess I was kinda ranting and needed to get that out there. :unsure.gif: Still, I see this kind of thing in packs that say they're trying to make minecraft as realistic as possible.
Just a pet peeve of mine, I probably shouldn't have mentioned it.

No matter the texture pack, Minecraft isn't realistic anyways. The term "realistic" is just a blanket term to cover graphics that are actually real textures instead of drawn.
The colors are very vivid. That could be an interesting style if you continue with it. From what I can see everything tiles very nicely. Your grass is a bit odd, extreamely leafy, but I really like it anyway. Your choice of light source is interesting. Different from what most people do. I like the smooth stone so far. Some people are going to say that you need more contrast with your tiles. But I would suggest keeping the style that you have. It is subdued but vibrant at the same time. The patterns are great.
Looks good :biggrin.gif:

I LOVE YOUR GRASS! It tiles perfectly and isn't all flat and boring like a lot of packs I see. Dirt is nice and chunky and also tiles perfectly. However is it just me or is there a very minor tiling issue with the stone on the left side? It might just be because of how oversensitive I am to tiling issues though.
When I'm making a texture pack (for myself or a friend) I just throw together different stuff from multiple texture packs (of course creating a few of my own here and there, can't always find things you like out there) into one sort of compilation pack.
When I make my own textures or am editing textures I use my laptop's mousepad and Paint.NET.
The one I use right now uses stuff from MajoraCraft, Corocraft, Painterly Pack, SMP's revival, CUBISM, some random textures I found lying around the net, FEZ texture pack, Jolicraft, 59craft, KabPack, Stega's rpg pack, Really Nice pack, Coterie Craft, Swinecraft, Link's Awakening DX pack, Speedpak pack, True Tile, Antiquity, Romecraft, some Halo texture packs, and one or two of my own textures.
Yesterday i started experimenting with 32x textures, so far ive only done dirt, grass and stone but id like some opinions from you clever texture people before i continue with it, thanks.

nicely done.. definitely keep going. do watch that little lighting issue like they pointed out already. tiling is your biggest enemy when creating textures.
edit: on a side note... if anyone is interested, (and since the original posts are hard to find) I have packages with hundreds of plugins and scripts for both gimp and paint.net (including python animation scripts for water/lava).
I'm currently making a texture pack, and would like some feedback on the few textures I have. The pack is very bright and cheery, and has a star theme of sorts. Constructive criticism would be very much appreciated.
Wooden planks/grass.
Tree. (Ignore the logs, they suck and i'm throwing them out as soon as I come up with a better texture.)
Cave, the black blocks are gravel, and the black/brown stone blocks are ores.
Dirt, stone and sand. The basics.
I would use a variation of the star pattern from texture to texture, while keeping it fairly uniform and tiling well. keep going. could be interesting.
For me, if I am working on a more detailed texture, I mess around in photoshop adding layers and doing crazy random **** to it till I randomly spawn something epic, I then tweak it a bit so it fits with the rest of the pack.
How do you (especially those with less artistic talent) produce the "jittered" look on stone textures? Whenever I try to make one it ends up similar to not_a_frog's or ImperishableCat's textures. Not that they are bad, but I would prefer a style similar to the old original cobblestone.
So far I simply load the brush with either black+white or the lightest+darkest color already present, switch to "airbrush" with random color and "tremble" setting and hose down the entire texture. Problems so far: still not enough ingame if I stop when the image looks blurred in GIMP, using B+W usually requires heavy re-saturation of the color, method doesn't produce "realistic" shapes or shadows, light color components often mess up intended cracks in the texture.
I would also like to make a lapis block texture with a theme of "crystallised water" (not ice, more like oldschool rpg water/water-elemental crystals)
So far anything "bubble" or "teardrop" themed has failed miserably, the bubbles usually becoming an indiscernable mess and the tears looked like an emblem printed onto a box, when I want the block to look like it's made of blue crystal.
So far I have only seen variations of solid blue, tinted panels and metal-encased solid blue as lapis textures, seems like noone really knows what to do with it. Do you know of any good-looking "crystalline" lapis textues?
Try the noise filter for the first problem, and making it look like a sapphire crystal for the second. Simply make a crystalline-looking texture in the color you want.

got stuck on this tonight... wanted some opinions from people who don't watch my pack...lol
for some reason I got onto a super simple kick, thinking about continuing this as a theme for my pack. 19 textures are done or nearly done... any thoughts?
I know about the lighting...lol just rotated it in for effect.
As far as how much will be done.... I'm constantly running into cool accidents and getting ideas for themes, and am building the pack around that. I would rather offer a ton of options for people through the customizer or whatnot, but I do want them to be full sets/ stand alone packs. This one is the idea for building materials, and having redstone blend flawlessly with the patterns. The natural environment will be alien in nature, kinda going along with the flowers I have as placeholders now. This darker material is what humans have made of the natural resources. (furnaces etc would be similar, metal panels on stone). this is just a test to see if the idea of this one being simple will fly...lol
Hm... Decreasing the contrast maybe? That might smooth it out, but i'm not so sure. It does seem like the darkest shades on those textures are too dark.

This one bugged me for a long time as well until I figured out something. The cloud.png it actually a UV map similar to the skins for mobs. The clouds HAVE to keep the same shape that the default has. (It kinda sucks)
