Ok...I've been having this issue with every texture pack I want to use. Here's the basic rundown of what I do and what happens:
I find a nice 16x16 pack that works with 1.7.3.
I go to the download for said pack.
I download and (since I'm on a Mac) once download is complete the file instantly extracts itself from the .zip format.
I re-zip the file, now having the compressed .zip file and the extracted downloaded file.
I take the .zip file and put it in the texturepack folder via ~/User/my user/Library/Application Support/minecraft/texturepack
I open Minecraft.
I go to the Mods/Texture Pack button.
I see my list of Texture packs under the Default.
All the packs have a grayed default image next to them, and are listed as their .zip filenames.
I select the pack I want, and it has the box around it showing I selected it.
I load a world.
I get the Default textures.
That's my problem! I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out where I went wrong and what I can do to fix the problem and actually use the texture packs.
The grayed image means that the pack hasn't been put together properly, and so will not work. I believe this has something to do with you changing the file around, despite the fact you have to.
Do you know why it extracts itself? I believe there is where your problem lies.
When you re-zip them, make sure you aren't zipping the folder it was in, and you select everything inside the texture pack folder and zip THAT, not the folder itself.
It extracted everything into a folder of the same name? You have to copy everything within the folder to the zip. The zip should go directly to the main directory without and folders.
