There is going to be an update put up sometime this weekend. But it's mostly just so it has everything for the full release that I really need to play some on.
I just haven't been able to get a good stirring of the creative juices to work on Mario textures for the last month.
Unlike the Classic Zelda games I've never really thoroughly played the classic Mario games. So I don't have a good idea of the enemies from them.
And just looking through the Mario wiki doesn't help at all.
I also can't remember if I've added anything besides moon phases since the last update.
I just leave it grey and let the default color gradient fill it in.
Honestly I wish I could figure out the gradient so I could have multicolored grass and leaves like in Mario games.
If you still Need help with the lava texture try the spriters resource http://spriters-resource.com/nes/supermariobros3/sheet/25686
Link to all World maps with lava, but no animation but it's water with red instead of blue and the waves are brown

You are a god send, may your days be blessed with victory and not death.
First off I like the progress of our pack, second the snow could use some work I'd say use the snow found in Super Mario Brothers 2 or as I call it SMB Dream World[cause SMB2 Lost levels is the true SMB2].
If you want I can link you in a PM a level map for the snow region in SMBD.
Although you could make the snow a solid white, cause that's how the snow is in SMB3
As for the Red Brick use the brick from Bowser's castle in SMB3
The Oak Log use the same coloration used in SMB3 Airship wood.
Iron Block would be the gray blocks used for the castles or fortresses in each of the worlds in SMB3, As for the other blocks like Lapis, gold, and diamond you could recolor the iron blocks to the appropriate coloration.
-=side note=-[if your observant all my suggestions are oriented around SMB3]
Sand you could use the sand from World 2, and the Sand Stone could be the blocks used in that world.
The Ender background you could use the background graphics used for the underground.
Redstone could be the red orb that has that red orb thingy[don't know the name of it]
Feather can be the Raccoon Leaf, Red Stone Torch could be the wand that the Koopa Kids uses[just red]
Gold Nuggets can be the coins
The chests can be the chests found in SMB3
The Windows can be the ones seen in the fortresses and castles, just without the rounded top.
The Door[wooden] you can use the same graphics used for the doors.
well given the time[1:43am] I shall end my suggestions until in the morning.

I can tell that you haven't actually downloaded the pack, because about half of what you suggested I am already using as you suggested. The other half would require me to change a lot of textures that I am quite happy with atm. About the only things I need to finish in the pack are items, mobs, and one or two blocks. I do thank you for taking the time to give suggestions though.
Although I do like the Wands being redstone torches, I hadn't thought of that. And I have no idea what you mean by "red orb thingy".
In Super Mario Brothers 3 the hazards or Roto Discs that is found in the fortresses.
Sorry for the odd image this was all I could find that shows what I'm talking about.

I got villagers done. They're Toads.
Except the hat layer is showing for them. Does the hat layer work for villagers?
If not I'll just have to stick it on the head.
Once I get that figured out I'll have some screenshots.
Also almost finished the Iron Golem. Just gotta redo part of the left leg.
I call them, Toad Bot 1.0.
Snow golems will get a similar texture, with alterations to be more snowy.
And once those are done, I'll start on the EnderYoshi. Screenshots sometime this week.
First the finished villagers and Iron Golem.
Both based on Toad.
Next new textures for Grass, Dirt, and Snow. No more black snow! You can stop whining now!
And finally the Enderyoshi!!!
I would have liked for the rest of the nose to of been in that, but it took at least half an hour to get that great an image.
I love the little angel wings.
Giving it 2 days.
If everything thats been made inconvenient to my using of this forum is still here I'm moving all my texture packs and operations to my Tumblr and dviantART.
Sexy new block textures, sexy Enderyoshi, not sexy Toad villagers, and *drumroll* LAVA. You can also see the cirlce stone texture, new textures for sand and brick, and gold's new color.
No GUI, my idea for it didn't pan out. Suggestions are welcome.
