Ive been working on a 32x texture pack, and ive been terribly frustrated, as every time I edit the default texture pack, even just one block's texture, it somehow damages the terrain.png, so that when I try to patch it and run it in minecraft, it is greyed out, and when I try to run it, it runs the default tectures. Help anyone?

Well, I have no experience with photoshop, so can't help you there, maybe its fudging up layers or something.
However, i did have a similar problem recently that turned out to just be me derping. Make sure all the texture files and folders are not getting nested inside another folder inside the zip file.
Ok, let me see if I understand you. You are trying to edit the original terrain.png that comes with minecraft. Everytime you do the block is greyed out. Then...you run it and it runs default. That is the part I am confused about. are you saying that when you patch the pack it greys out the blocks in the terrain.png or in game?
Are you editing the terrain.png while it is inside the Minecraft.jar? Are you creating a new .zip file for your texture pack?
Also, a side note. You shouldn't be patching the texture pack. Just run MCpatcher once and then drop the texture pack in the texture pack folder. Patching each TP used to be the way MCpatcher works but not anymore. That threw me off for a while and ruined my water, fire and lava textures.

Yeah, I guess I should be a bit more clear about the problem. Ive tested this out a lot, and it is absolutely no question not an issue with the formatting. Ive taken other peoples 32x packs, and only edited their terrain.png, and it still breaks. It is an issue with how my photoshop formats a png, I guess. Thats the only explanation I can come up with

No, it has nothing to do with the color of blocks. The properly formatted texture pack simply doesnt work, before or after using the patcher. When I try to select it, it doesnt read the pack, and istead gives me the default

If all else fails, GIMP has been formatting png's just fine for minecraft for me. Like i said, idk anything about photoshop. Good luck. ^.^
hmm, have you tried reinstalling photoshop (if you can). I use photoshop for my pack and it works fine. You may also try doing a reinstall/force update of minecraft.
You are running a 32x pack right? When you load a 32x tp and it give the default does it look like the default has been scaled in any way. I ask because this is what was happening with my water, fire and lava textures. When I attempted to edit the terrain.png and patch them into minecraft the above textures would be the default but resized. So if I was running a 64x they would be 4 times the resolution. It was weird. It turned out that I was using the MCpatcher wrong.

Might be an issue with how it's being saved or zipped. You could upload the terrain to Dropbox (or anywhere really) and send the link to it in a PM to me. I seriously doubt it's a PS installation issue.

I suppose thats a last resort, but considering the amount of money I spent on photoshop, ill have to swallow a lump to force myself to use gimp

File > Save For Web & Devices
Then select png and export as terrain.png, pack it up in a zip and you're done
