Soooo, is this dead? It was going so good and now it's kind of fading away :/
you son need to work on your patience.
sorry feathers only just caught up on this thread. Some of it is amusing to the owls.
Amazing how much time and effort you sink into these, i dont know where you find the energy and I think some people need to be much more appreciative of what you are offering. I am keeping this bumped so people can see what quality reviews are worth to their packs and other peoples packs.
Sorry the reviews are taking so long, but as 42and19 has said I'm on vacation at the moment, and internet access is very spotty out here. I haven't forgotten about everyone here, and I'll get to your packs as soon as I have a chance.
I really would prefer if you gave me 1 wk extra by moving me down the list as im releasing a big update & i have a massive english story to write 30 pages min ( extension ). If i finish it earlier ill give you a heads up so the review happens sooner. Thanks so much steelfeathers & hope you enjoy/enjoyed your holiday
I have to hand it to you, this is one of the only packs I've ever seen whose theme focuses on an art style rather than a specific time/place/game. With that in mind, my review will focus on how well (or not so well) this pack creates an impressionist feel.
Highlights:
There's a lot to love about this pack. First, I will compliment you on your tasteful use of filters-- far too many times I have seen packs that overuse filters or use them inappropriately, creating garish textures that very rarely tile well. You, on the other hand, have used filters the way they were meant to be used, employing them to enhance rather than replace your art. Additionally, I can tell that you put in the time and effort needed to make the blocks tile well, rather than simply slapping on a filter and calling it a day. Save for a few little nitpicks, there are no glaringly obvious tiling errors.
-Glass exemplifies what I feel this pack can and should be-- the design is unique and tasteful, matching the impressionist time period as well as modeling the impressionist style by incorporating a few deliberate imperfections that only add to its appeal.
-The cobble is usual and exciting, but still familiar enough not to feel alien. Nicely done.
-The patterning on the dirt is interesting, and the washed out color fits very well with the impressionist art style
-I love the diagonal stroke leaves. They fit so beautifully with the feel of the pack without seeming contrived or awkward.
-Your deserts are quite lovely-- the combination of cactus and sand creates a setting right out of a painting, and I really enjoy their dreamy feel.
-The furnace is appropriately industrial without being overdone or straying into steampunk.
-The wheat is a very nice shape, but I have a few slight complaints about the coloration (which I will cover later)
-Your jack'o lantern is probably my favorite texture. The expression is very original, and very nicely colored.
-Love the veins of gold through the netherrack-- its original and classy, while still maintaining that eerie nether feeling.
-I adore the detailing on the door. I'm definitely going to swipe some inspiration from it for future projects. Ditto for the pattern of the brick.
-Purple soulsand. :biggrin.gif:
Things that need improvement:
The big issue I have with this pack is that sometimes the impressionist theme gets lost, despite the nice texturing on the blocks. Dirt, sand, and cactus all work wonderfully together, conveying the soft, desaturated feel of an impressionist painting. But the grass, leaves, brick and other textures seem too dark and too saturated. They don't say 'impressionist' to me at all. And while I love the gold curly details on the chest, door, and wools, I don't understand why they're there-- they don't accentuate the theme of the pack at all.
There are also some issue with the perspective of the theme of this pack. By that I mean that many of the textures I listed above-- including the nice wavy texture of the vignette- make the player feel like they are inside of an impressionist painting, but other textures-- such as cake and bookshelf, which do not seem like they would be found in a painting-- break the fourth wall, taking the player out of the world of the painting. I would suggest that you stick with the first perspective and accentuate the feel of being inside of a painting. It's unusual, it's intriguing, and it has the ability to be very beautiful.
Nitpicks:
-Your glowstone tiles well, but I really don't understand why you made it blue and sandy. I personally don't like it that way, and I don't think it fits with everything else, but that's just my opinion.
-The leaves are a bit too dark on the left edge, disrupting their tiling.
-The large rectangular 'push plate' on the wooden door makes it look like the door to the kitchen in an upscale restaurant. I would definitely replace it with a knob or handle.
-Clouds. ....wat?
- There's a golden halo around your desert shrub that really needs to go away.
-There's a spot of darkness along one edge of the snow blocks that interrupts the flow of the snowy plains:
-The wheat feels too dark and flat. I'd advise brightening it a bit and upping the contrast. There is also a line of stray pixels at the very top that needs to be erased.
-The red flower has a distracting splatter of black and white on the left side:
Overall:
This pack is inspired both in theme and execution. While at times there is a little confusion with the perspective, overall I feel that it is very well done and is well on its way to being the best 'art' pack on the forums.
Hello, my name is Oxiloth, and I would like you to review this texture pack for me. It is called Zack's Pack, and basically it is my first pack, but it is really holding the place of a 32x RPG pack that looks extremely well at the moment. I am just trying to keep the people happy so I made this pack for everyone who hates 'simple' packs. The only thing truly simple about it is the name.
Oh, and despite what the texture pack shows, I am not a bad artist.
hello there steel. I know you have probably never seen any of my art and do not have the slightest idea who I am but I came here to say thank you. I think I speak for everyone saying that not only is this one of the best ideas and contributions to the entire forums, it also helps some new and upcoming artists find their feel for their art. I don't think you realize how much it is appreciated and how little everyone understands the time and effort you put into these reviews. Most people would have put the reviews aside or just stopped them completely. You are already an amazing artist, and not only are you bringing joy to many fans of your art, but you are dedicating many hours of your live just to help a few people out. That is called a good soul my friend, which many people need to realize you have. Anyone who takes you and your service for granted needs to realize what you are doing, how you are doing it, and why. I and many others are truly in awe at your dedication to this forum and the community. On that note, I bid you and your apples good day.

Hmm, I will fiddle with somethings. I suppose that my problem right now is that I am not sure that I want to continue with the impressionist theme. The more practice I get the more detailed my textures turn out. The latest cobble that I posted a screen of on my thread is an example. I do however, really like the feel I originally started with. It is a battle going on in my mind and I guess it shows in my work. :biggrin.gif:

Thank you for the review. I appreciate the time and effort that you spend on this. May I ask what resolution what you used?
I have reworked the glowstone. The texture will be in the next update. I found that the texture was too...boring. It is still blue however.
I noticed the leaves the other day and have fixed them. :biggrin.gif:
Yeah, the wooden door needs a total remake. It is a bit "fantasy" for this pack.
HAHA! I thought I had removed the clouds from that release. I will do so tonight and replace them with the default until I can figure out something that works.
The halo on the cactus I think is a result of mostly transparent pixels. YAY! I will also fix that before the next update.
I have never noticed the stray pixels on the wheat or the dark spot on the snow...I wonder if it is a 64x thing... I will fix those immediatly. I also plan on reworking the wheat. I think I may add a few more stalks as well as touch them up with some lighting.
The rose was my first non-block texture and I definitely need to revisit both that and the yellow flower.

I know the list is pretty much full, and I'm willing to wait, but could you review my pack as well? I promise I'll be finished with the apple item texture soon, and possibly even the golden apple texture.
Hate to put more work on your shoulders, but your reviews are so good! I could really improve my pack with a little whipping into shape.
Ah, ****. I thought the list was closed, but then people kept posting here wanting a review so I figured that I would as well.
...Well, I don't really need a review immediately, so whenever that list clears up, I'll try to get a... er, reservation? Haha.

I used the 128x version. So no, the line above the wheat is not just a 64x problem-- it's the trunk of your birch sapling extending down one pixel too far.
