The problem isn't that they're "simple" or "clean." There's only really one issue here: Laziness, immaturity, and the indignant reactions these 12-year-olds have when called on it. It isn't that they're making packs in a few hours, it's that they aren't putting any effort into it when they do. The problem is texture packs with no thought or effort behind them taking over the forum.
And, of course, this isn't a solvable problem. People are basically the same everywhere, and when you have a playerbase with vast swaths of 12-16 year olds playing it, you get the entitlement and immaturity that goes with it. Not everyone that age is this bad, don't think I'm saying they are. It's just that entitlement and laziness run rampant among those who've never had to work to live.
So while I agree that it's an issue, and I agree that you guys are ****in' funny (seriously, great thread), it's not going away because people are people. And people, as a whole, are stupid, lazy, and self-centered. And that's just the middle of the bellcurve.
Minecraft fans tend to fit into at least one of a handful of categories: People who love it because they're creative (texture pack makers build some cool ****), obsessive nerds, programmers and other people in computer-based industries (such as graphic designers), immature teens and tweens, and people who think Notch is such a sweetheart he deserves their money.
The teens buy it because it's cheap, and therefore easy to earn on a few hours of minimum wage work / easy to get 20 bucks from mom.

Hello!
i am introducing to you my new texture pack! i have called it SPIRALCRAFT! i have called it spiralcraft bacause all of the blocks have spirals on them! This is my first texture pack and it is inspired by gerdoku and i am only 12 so no bad reviews! it has taken me a whole evening to make the terrain but i havnt done the mobs or items because i dont know how and i am to lazy! lol!

Personally the packs I see all the damn time that I'm sick of are the ones like these: [link removed; pack turned out to be a lot better than I thought]
But I don't have a problem with them. It's not a crap pack someone made by taking a dump into CS5. It's something made by a beginner who put some time, effort, and thought into it, but it's clearly beginner work. These are not packs to criticize. These are packs to support, because someone made something they care about. Or at least, support the creators and encourage them to get better.
I am, however, tired of looking for packs to feed my addiction and finding student work all over the place.
- Simple/Clean packs.
- Obvious edits of the default textures that aren't even that different.
- Remix packs (Even if they have permission).
- Packs that clearly rip off (Or take too much inspiration from) other packs *coughfoliacraftcough*
I've found 6 good, worth-keeping texture packs since I started playing Minecraft, and that's pretty sad.
For those wondering, they're...
- SMP's Revival (Probably my favorite texture pack of all time)
- Jolicraft
- SummerFields (Probably the only exception of the "too much inspiration" thing)
- GeruDoku (I used my own custom version with texture akin to DokuRPG, 2nd favorite pack)
- Painterly Pack (I use a custom one obviously)
- DokuCraft
