This thread has almost summed up my emotions. The poster is obviously having a go at the simple packs that have no talent. Not like some of the 3 hour texture pack competitions or some of the other brilliantly simple but talented and beautiful looking packs that are out. But minimalism isn't the lack of everything, its the use of small things to make something infinitely more complex than it seems.
The thread of OMG guz whatz u thnk of my txtures!!!! need to stop, or people need to start being honest like doku and say, well... it sucks, completely, rethink your ideas, your concept your time managment, and get back to the community with something we haven't damn well seen before.
To the trolls that are posting adfly links on texture packs or single textures, ignore them, report them and ignore the thread.
The state of these forums is attrocious cause anyone who can use a filter in photoshop thinks that makes the eligible to do this sort of thing, I don't know what does make you eligible but it is NOT a photoshop filter and never will be (Same thing applies to graphic design... frik)
Another thing that does not make a pack is the ability to google. Congrats, you can resize a texture and it become blurry.
1. not only are google images not free rights to use for you they also look like ****.
2. they look like ****.
3 they don't till well.
4. THEY LOOK, LIKE ****.
to aaegon and the few others making quality 64x packs and above, well done to you guys for putting so much time and heart into textures.
I have nothing wrong with people growing and evolving and asking question on these forums but by god people go about it in the wrong way, they don't read the sticky thread at the top of the page that says READ BEFORE POSTING and they need to take critique.
oh and starting a poll will achieve nothing, doku's remix policy thread proves that the mods just dont give
(enough of)a damn about our section of the forums.
We also have a ton of doku inspired packs, RPG packs, and realistic packs... Maybe we should get rid of them too. When you look at what types of packs call this forum home then you'll see that they're all pretty much the same. RPG pop up all the time, whether they be 32x or 16x. Realistic packs are like the king kong of monotony and doku packs are every where.
I just look at it like this. They all have to start somewhere (I did a clean texture pack as well. granted mine was stylized). Clean packs are the easiest way to get into texture pack making. I mean who knows they could one day end up like doku...
My point is it isn't a big deal. There isn't such a thing as originality, and if there is its not practical. We have tons of similar texture packs on the forum but no one complains about them.
And yes I know the exact response someone will bring up against my argument.

no i like this argument... without the other side of the story we are all being bias bastards.
And no there is no such thing as originality, but the fact of the matter is there is only so many 2 colour packs that can exist without them all being the same. As I have stated there is some great 'smooth' packs out there, like xaiwaker is a prime example, its simple and elegant. But it doesn't lack the things that makes it unique.
You say doing a simple one is a great way to get into texturing, I argue against that and say it is the opposite, working with more than 4 colours will teach you to balance colours, light, shading, depth, and ... the big one... TEXTURE... as that is what we are here for. Our point should be that there are enough simple textures that it all looks the same these days, it is not as it seems that all simple packs suck. If I am wrong then perhaps there should be a thread for simple packs and people who want to learn textures that way, to keep the forums neater.
Remix packs are a whole other area to delve into.
If I might point out a pack that took its own take on a pack that was made and clearly stated it then I would say Ovo's rustic pack, as you can see the inpiration from Johnsmith clearly if you look, but it is still new, unique and fantastic.
The big deal is that people that are sinking hours into threads and textures and being a helpful part of the 'community' are getting shoved off the front page by people who a lot of the time are posting stuff that can be done in under 3 hours (shown by the 3 hour texture pack comp)
again end #rant
also FailedToOpen I would like more of your feedback on the changes in my pack, you posted a video then ran away... this makes dorian :sad.gif: ..... :wink.gif:
Also thank you for another side to this conversation.

Hey hey, don't go bustin' on the three hour tp competition. I'll have you know that one of the best packs I've ever made (in my own humble opinion) came from participating in that.

Yeah I saw that thread and a lot of them looked pretty decent
As long as the 3 hour people are still being creative and unique that's really the point

oh god, no i wasn't slagging it, i was supporting it... or was supposed to be. I was saying THIS is what simple packs should be. Thoughtful and interesting, which they were and all done in under 3 hours. So therefore people can't tell me that these 'smooth' packs are anything but bollocks, there is already a smooth pack so we have no need for more, and there is plenty of opportunity and great ways to start texturing like those 3 hour packs...
(I like the 3 hour pack competition and most of its packs)
I am sorry If I am not making sense, I have been writing too much and I must run off to collect a bill.
Speaking or releasing a joke pack. I have a version I made as a joke were I resized the default to 128x and put it through a colored pencil filter. It is literally the ugliest thing I have ever seen. But I bet it would get some downloads.

totally would but dear god please dont, I will vomit.
It urks me that my texture keeps getting moved to page 10 because there is about a new 1x texture pack getting posted every few hours. It's annoying seeing my (hard) work get ignored and instead these pathetic textures get all the attention.
I'm sure so many other people feel the same way. I think a new thread, as suggested by many other people, should be created, where people can post there beginning textures and get feedback there.
I usually struggle to get a comment on my texture pack because every minute somebody has to release simple packs that have been seen ten million times. I hate it. HATE IT.

Not sure if my brain could handle it though.
Do it. I want to see the sexiness of your pink coloured pencil filter.
