It's not like, you know, they said people could use the packs. I don't see anything wrong with fan updates, granted they don't die. I made mine because I haven't seen any active ones lately, and they're all using the same textures. I already have textures done for 1.8, and I plan to update mine with every future update.

when 90% of people edit one colour and claim it as their own, it does end up being stealing, cause they don't credit properly. The 10% that do I dont have problem with. But remix's can be a taboo thing.

Well, that's those people. I've listed credits as best as I could in my topic, and I'll continue to do so. I'm just updating it because I'm a long-time user of GeruDoku, and no other fan-updates seem to be active anymore.

We need to stop arguing. It's alienating people in the community, and everyone is posting here rather than hunting for good packs to resurrect.
I motion to immediately return to browsing for textures and giving artists feedback on their work rather than arguing. The only way to end the flood of repetitive packs is to help new artists to improve, so that's what we should be doing. Continue to rehash the same arguments won't get us anywhere.

You're right to some extent. We should be helping others see that their packs have potential to be good, but they need to take our advice first.
A lot of the people who create simple packs don't want negative/constructive criticism. They think they're already great enough artists that they don't need advice.
And then when people make threads like this, everyone goes insane. One side is defending the shitty packs, and the other is against them. At that point, no one wants to hear the other sides' argument.
As for "resurrecting" old packs, someone should make an ultimate fan-update topic. Even though I'm making one myself, I agree there are a lot out there. Maybe we could *shudder* do the same for *shiver*...Crappy, clean, and simple packs.
So lets do it like this, everyone go back a couple (or a lot) of pages, find a texture pack you like, look if the person who made it is still active here on the forums, message him/her about updating it and bump their thread. Lets get some good textures to the front page! :smile.gif:

One of my favorites of all time, splixelset is outdated, and is still in the "mapping and modding" section and the guy who made it isn't active here anymore. Oh well, I hope I can find something else that's awesome. But go check his textures out! :smile.gif:
I didn't mean ancient packs from way back when in 1.2 that haven't been updated in months-- just ones that have fallen by the wayside for a week or too under the tide of rehashed textures.
EDIT: that pack you pointed out does look pretty cool. I'm not talking about that one specifically, just in general.
I guess we can bump some that has fallen into the void too, but I'm also referring to bump outdated textures that contains REAL quality! :wink.gif:

yes, but we should definitely make sure that packs that are being updated stay near the top.
All the packs I follow, with the exception of two, are being currently updated. I try to keep them towards the top without spamming with annoying posts like
