Look. I know that some of you really like clean texture packs, but we don't need anymore. Im sorry, but I really cant stand seeing 1x texture packs, even though there are about forty. If you are going to make clean texture packs, atleast get a little creative. Now, Im seeing more and more texture packs, like "Clean Craft" and less and less of texture pack such as Jolicraft. I'd really enjoy more original texture packs. No offence to any people who make clean texture packs, but theres already enough.
Thanks for reading this.
Some people seem to think that making all the textures one color (or simply recoloring the original textures to take out all the noise) qualifies as making something 'smooth' and thus pleasing. What they are not realizing, however, is that some little amount of detail or pattern or noise or SOMETHING is infinitely perferable to flat blocks of color that look awkward and have no theme or style beyond 'no noise'.
God yes. I am fine with a few here and there, but it has gotten to the point where they are starting to drown out better texture packs. This thread deserves a sticky!
I think it's because the more complex and detailed packs take a lot more time and effort. I'm not calling them lazy though (because that would make me a hypocrite *texture pack I'm working on*), I'm just pointing out a reason why that might be. It's at least good practice to know where everything is placed I guess.

That's probably one of the reasons, but it's not necessarily true that you have to spend weeks to make a good pack. Just take a look at the results of the three hour texture pack competition-- a good deal of the packs that resulted were excellent, and they all had to be made in only three hours.
I think Steelfeather and I have the same frustration. It feels like these clean (boring) packs are taking over and drowning out the new texture packs that actually took a lot of time and effort to make. It is discouraging as an artist to feel like your hard work isn't appreciated and even more frustrating to see that some half-assed texture pack is more popular. It's kind of like those "up scaled and thrown through a filter" packs that are hovering around.

I don't mind textures being smooth or clean as long as they're somehow unique. I made my very own "clean" texture pack (link in desc.) but it has some very unique colors and such. But yea, simple defaults has been made waaay too many times.
It's not so much that we dislike smooth and clean packs. It's more that there seems to be dozens of new one popping up every week. How many different ways can you represent a block of grey?

What really gets me is how there are at least 50 different packs where the grass is a solid green block (with or without a border), the dirt is a solid brown block (with or without a border), the stone is a solid gray block (with or without a border), the planks are solid brown with a few dark brown lines, the bricks are solid red with a few white lines, and the chests are default chests without noise (again, with or without a border).

i agree with this. i'm also getting super bummed out by all these people making "realistic" HD texture packs with no concern of editing the textures to tile at all. its starting to become a popular thing for people to just crop and resize photos and slap them on the terrain.png and call it finished.
Edit- i forgot to mention that not all "realistic" texture packs are like this. there are many high resolution texture packs that actually have effort put into them, but then there are equally as many that do not. i for one, put a lot of effort into my texture pack and i know many other people do as well.
Thanks for reading this.
We want a better experience, not a smoother experience.

Nobody cares.
I am making my own.
But if you're going to post on the texture pack forums, atleast post an original pack.
